Stiff, Understated Design, High Quality

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

The Ritchey Toyon replaced a Ritchey WCS 4-Axis stem. That stem was very light at 120g in a 120mm length, but it had a lot of flex, which can be an issue for longer road stems. The new Toyon is noticeably stiffer in the 120mm length, it has a squared-off body which adds to the stiffness, as does the 220-degree bar clamp design, with wide-set faceplate bolts. The Toyon makes a big difference on the road, the front end feeling is now much improved. The new design is also very modern and understated, matte black with only a small gloss strip on top with the WCS logo, and a flush top cap with a rubber cover. Very sleek. The Toyon is heavier at 145 grams, but that’s still reasonable for a longer stem, and I’ll trade a few grams for better on the road performance. Unlike the higher-end Ritchey C260, mounting bars on the Toyon is quick and easy, and it uses traditional M5 stainless bolts, not the thinner M4 Torx bolts found on the C260. Overall, a great upgrade, and it won’t break the bank.
