Description

X-Trail Ultegra Allroad Bike

Carbon fiber has its appeal, but at a serious cost to your bank account, and when long adventures off the beaten path with a fully loaded steed is your prerogative, it's just not fully necessary. Ridley's X-Trail Ultegra Allroad Bike finds itself at home far beyond the mainstream, pedaling up long gravel roads to vistas only seen by other very dedicated adventurers, fully loaded with gear for finding a home neatly under the bows of a tree for the night, and onward. The frame's triple-butted 6061-T6 aluminum is heat-treated to further improve its fatigue resistance, so it's much better suited to the abuse of pannier-laden bikepacking than the latest wonder materials. Save the carbon climbing bike for five hour rides, and take the aluminum X-Trail for rides lasting five days.

Though the frame is aluminum, Ridley equips the X-Trail with a carbon fiber fork that has integrated fender mounts to keep grime out of your face when conditions are less than ideal. The legs of the Oryx Disc fork are shaped from a blend of 30t and 24t high-modulus carbon fiber, which add a bit of chatter-absorption while stiffening the front end in the event your bikepacking route leads straight up or straight down a steep fire road. The steer tube is still aluminum, and the left leg is built-up in order to offset the twisting forces applied by disc brakes. The fork is equipped with a stiff thru-axle, too, further reinforcing the overall structure against braking forces and the general lumps of all-terrain cycling.

The X-Trail's geometry is something of a melting pot, but the end result fits pretty firmly in the gravel category rather than a classic cyclocross bike like the X-Night. It's got a lower bottom bracket, shorter chainstays, and a stack/reach combination that leaves riders in less of a shoulder-intensive, slammed racing position but rather a more comfortable, long-miles position. In contrast to its road racing frames, Ridley extended the X-Trail's head tube by 10mm, bringing riders into a more upright position to accommodate longer training rides rather than racing exclusively. It's only slightly more aggressive than the Ridley's endurance road bike the Fenix, in fact, but unlike its endurance road cousin, the X-Trail is designed to be run with tires up to 38mm wide.

  • An alloy adventure machine built for life beyond the pavement
  • Long, stable geometry keeps its footing on gravel and washboard
  • Shimano's Ultegra drivetrain provides clean shifting and reliability
  • Clearance for up to 38mm tires allows a wide range of tread options
  • Disc brakes offer confident stopping power in all conditions
  • Aluminum frame is very sturdy and has integrated fender mounts
  • Carbon fork smooths rough terrain and also has integrated fender mounts
  • Ridley's X-Trail series brings Belgian 'cross expertise to all-terrain cycling

Is the bike aluminum or carbon??? picture is carbon but description is aluminum. Maybe someone from CC will look at this and answer if its posted as a review.

I just received mine today. It is as pictured (Carbon frame with fulcrum wheel set and Clement 36s) and not as described. But it took 30 days to receive even with 2 day shipping. Only took a short test ride today but it seems great so far.

Hi Andrew, just want to ask is the frame of this is made in China. Thank you.

The bike pictured is the carbon frame not the aluminum as described in the overview and the tech specs. The price is also more in line with carbon not aluminum. What is the actual bike for sale here?

Is this a carbon or aluminum frame? The pictures are clearly the carbon frame version, but the description states alloy. The wheelset stated is also different than pictured. Thanks.
