There are riders with a bike for every specific use: bikepacking, gravel, commuting... And while their garage organization is the stuff of dreams, we prefer the simpler approach: one bike that can cover the majority of terrain we find ourselves riding, with room to spare in the garage for our other interests. The Kanzo A pairs the durable and accessible Kanzo Alloy frame with Shimano’s gravel-specific GRX RX600 drivetrain. With optional fender mounts, this can be your all-weather commuting steed. Paired with a few bags, it’s ready for an overnighter in the national forests.
Ridley shapes the Kanzo’s frame using triple-butted 6061-T6 heat treated aluminium, for a hard-working frame that maintains a relatively low weight. Subtly asymmetrical, its Oryx Carbon Disc fork is carefully reinforced on the left leg to allow it to more efficiently bear twisting forces applied by disc brakes, and with a 12 x 100mm thru axle up front and a 12 x 142mm in the rear, the frame achieves confidence-inspiring stiffness throughout.
As implied by the above, the Kanzo is a melting pot of frame geometries. The result resembles more of a road bike more than a classic cyclocross bike like the X-Night, as noted by its lower bottom bracket, shorter chainstays, and a stack/reach combination that leaves riders in less of an aggressive slammed racing position. In contrast to its road racing frames, Ridley does extend the Kanzo head tube by 10mm, bringing riders into a more upright position to accommodate longer rides and touring rather than racing exclusively. It's only slightly more aggressive than the Fenix, in fact, but unlike its endurance road cousin, the Kanzo is designed to run tires up to 47mm wide for more comfort and traction across more rugged terrain. This particular build pairs 45mm WTB Riddler tires for greater traction across dirt and gravel.
As we mentioned above, this bike is kitted out with the precise and reliable Shimano GRX 2x drivetrain. This gravel-specific gearing specs a 46/31t crankset for the more challenging terrain we find ourselves riding. An 11-32t cassette provides ample range to get up and over the ridge lines, while the hydraulic brakes keep speed in check when cruising back into town. Finishing touches include Forza cockpit components and Shimano wheels to keep you rolling true.
