Why We Like The Fenix SLiC Disc Ultegra Road Bike
The pursuit of all-round racing characteristics is at the center of the Ridley Fenix SLiC Disc Ultegra Road Bike design. With an endurance-type geometry, the Fenix SLiC comforts for extended base-miles training while maintaining an affinity for aggressive, challenging terrain. Considering the rolling terrain of Ridley's home territory of Flanders, Belgium, it's no surprise that the Fenix SLiC is the result of "all-around" development. Designed as a bike with a classic aesthetic and a diamond-shaped main triangle, the Fenix SLiC is destined to float across cols and steep bergs that beautifully speckle the countryside as well as maintain a stable ride-quality across rough terrain as cobbles, should you ever be fortunate enough to ride them.
Ridley manages a blended layup for the Fenix SLiC with a precision mix of 30T and 24T high-modulus carbon that maintains stiffness for race-pace accelerations and precision steering in technical descents while offering increased compliance to extend enough comfort to be a daily driver. Out front, the Fenix SLiC receives a new carbon fork. Using a similar blended carbon design as does the frame, the slimmer fork is straightened to provide improved front end stiffness and a more responsive steering experience. Ridley claims this upgrade moves the Fenix SLiC towards the riding qualities demanded by modern all-round cyclists who explore deeper and further into lesser maintained terrain.
Ridley equips the versatile Fenix SLC with Shimano's Ultegra hydraulic disc brake groupset for enhanced brake modulation in mixed weather conditions and reliable consistency of stopping power. A compact Rotor Vegast crankset and the large Ultegra 32 tooth cog on the 11-speed cassette help you power over steep rollers and keep the knees from creaking on longer alpine passes during the mountain-top pastry café quests of mid-summer. Internal routing provides clean and efficient cable management to increase aerodynamics and styling. The Fenix SLiC uses a standard 27.2mm seatpost for riding comfort. However, the seat clamp is hidden and covered by an aerodynamic cover for cleaner aesthetics and to carry the importance of efficient speed to an overlooked area on mid-range endurance bikes.
