ATR Carbon Disc Wheelset - Tubeless

The current trend of road-looking frames that blur the lines between tarmac, dirt, gravel, and even light singletrack has only hit one major speed bump so far. The demands of terrain and a do-it-all attitude don’t sit well on the pencil-thin Euro rims that have dominated road cycling for so long. Reynolds' ATR (All Terrain Road) Carbon Disc Wheelset, with its generous width and hybrid construction, frees your gravel steed from the fetters of tiny tires, giving you 21 glorious internal millimeters of tire-mounting space.

The ATRs may say road right in the title, but their construction speaks mountainese. They're made with the same MR5 lay-up philosophy as Reynold's top-end mountain rims, which artfully distributes five different fiber and resin builds throughout the rims in order to effectively match each material's specific properties with each location's particular demands.

The wheels are also disc-ready, with the same centerlock attachment hardware featured throughout Reynolds' line of disc-brake wheels. For a wheelset meant to handle all surfaces in all conditions, disc brakes are pretty much a requirement. The ability to modulate stopping power over around five times the force as rim brakes is nice, but the real selling point is that they always grab immediately, so you won't barrel into a tree or a car backing out of a driveway while your pads spend a useless rotation clearing water or debris from the braking surface.

Finally, it would be sheepish to offset all these gains by forcing us to use antiquated, heavy, flat-prone, and less-forgiving clincher tires on the ATRs, and Reynolds doesn't disappoint. As with many of the Utah-based manufacturer's other wheel lines for 2015, the ATRs are tubeless-ready, which adds even more traction, efficiency, and comfort to an already superlative ride experience.
