Description

AR41 Carbon Wheelset

With so many mid-depth carbon wheels on the market, it might be hard to decide which ones to get. We're here to help, so we'd start by saying that tubeless compatibility is a given as we're super impressed by the ride quality and flat prevention of modern tubeless. Next up is finding a rim profile that is stable in crosswinds. Lack of confidence in blustery conditions doesn't let you reap the benefits of a faster wheel and defeats the purpose. Lastly, we'd say choose a wheelset that you can ride every day. It's helpful to have a wheelset that you can ride often and become familiar with the handling characteristics before race day as well as a solid warranty if something happens out on the roads. Reynolds' AR41 Carbon Wheelset gives you all of this and comes in at a price that's a real bargain.

The 41mm depth drops drag for an aero advantage yet it's not so deep that it causes a fit in windy conditions. Reynolds refined the shape of the rim to increase stability across a variety of Yaw angles so crosswinds no longer blow you around like a sail and you can confidently ride the wheels regardless of the conditions. The healthy 19mm internal width provides plenty of support for wider, lower pressure tubeless tires allowing you to enjoy the traction, lower rolling resistance, and comfort that's on tap.

Lacing these quality hoops up with sub-standard spokes to meh hubs would be a great disservice and Reynolds does the right thing with Sapim Sprint spokes and brass nipples to Reynolds' Allroad hubs. When it comes time to scrub speed, the new improved Ctg2 brake track offers 30% better heat resistance than previous models.

  • A versatile, carbon, tubeless, disc wheelset with an aero advantage
  • Carbon fiber construction keeps rims light and responsive
  • Rim shaping improves aerodynamics and stability across a variety of Yaw angles
  • New Ctg2 brake track handles heat better than previous versions
  • Tubeless compatibility allows for a faster, more comfortable ride
  • Wide internal width plumps up modern road rubber

A real winner of a wheel

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Fit:
True to size

I upgraded my 2005 Roubaix Pro's stock Dura-Ace wheels and couldn't be happier. What a huge improvement in ride. With Continental 5000 TL's on it, the ride of these wheels puts my old sew-ups to shame and is a totally different planet from the clinchers of yore, fast as could be yet super smooth. The only minor detail was my bike has a Shimano 10 speed cartridge and the included shim pushed the cassette a bit too far out on the axle so the derailer couldn't drop the chain onto the 10th gear. Easy solve was putting 3mm of washer under the shaft of the derailer to move it a bit out and voila. It's not easy to mount the tires but with a bit of patience and 5 minutes I got them on, using hand strength and one tool. I talked to a local shop and the mechanic felt it's better to have the rims a bit harder to mount the tires on, he feels those seal better. YMMV, but man I am super happy with this purchase, and other than electric shifters I felt a new bike with Dura-Ace group did not provide a better ride...

Great wheel!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Felt need to jump on here because of other review- I set up tubeless with conti grand prix 5000s and, while it was a struggle getting the tire on the rim (took 10-15 min), it inflated with a floor pump right away. Put in sealant and been running for a month + with no issues. The rear wheel does flex a bit, but could just be the pair i have. Will be checking with reynolds to see if it is just my set. Braking power is great.

will never buy again

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

second pair of wheels from reynolds. first set of tires was a chore to mount and i destroyed three tubes in the process. finally decided to convert over to tubeless tires and broke tire levers trying to mount the rear tire. took three hands to get on, then struggled with setting the tire on the bead. second bike has a pair of Rovel wheels on it with the same tires and i set those with only one tire lever and inflated right away with a floor pump so disappointed in Reynolds as their quality has dropped significantly will never buy another set again

Seems like user error. I've never had a problem mounting clinchers or tubeless to these. There are plenty of good how-to vids on youtube man!

so because you can't mount tires that means Reynolds quality has dropped significantly?

So it's the problem the wheels or your ability to mount? I have these with tubeless Conti 5000 and no issues whatsoever. I would suggest you take a look at some videos on how to mount properly. Honestly, I never need tire levers to mount only to unmount.

Do the AR41s still have the same issues with mounting tires (difficulty in doing so) that the previous model of tubeless-ready Assaults had?

they are the same spend the money for a better wheel and you wont be disappointed

Do these come with tubeless tape and valves along with the Cryo blue power brake pads? Are they set up tubeless ready or do I have to apply the tape?

The AR41 wheels come taped with valves and brake pads. We can also mount cassettes and tires before we ship them out!

Lisa, I just received my set from Reynolds. They came with the cryo blue powder brake pads and valves. The rims were already taped.
