Well constructed, fatal flaw

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've used this on a weekend credit card tour and on day rides. I have to say that I like the materials and features a lot. It holds everything you'd need for a couple days, it doesn't completely crowd your cockpit, and it looks nice. It may not have a gazillion little pockets, but the materials are quality and the craftsmanship is, too. The problem I've experienced more than once is that one of the magnetic catches that is "permanently" fastened to the bottom of the bag and mates to the part that straps to the rack sometimes pops apart from itself (not from the part that it magnetically attaches to). If I can't carry something like a U-lock in this thing, there's something wrong with it. Hopefully they'll perfect this problem in the near future, because I really like this style of bag and this is a really good concept (and-for the most part- execution).

I've always loved the look of randonneuring bags, but never felt like committing to the handlebar mount. The Rando bag from Restrap is the best of both worlds. Easy front of bike access to all your gear, but securely mounted to a rack instead of the handlebars. The mag lock system is easy to mount and offers smooth removal of your bag, but is a fairly large eyesore on your rack without the bag. That said, you'll find so many reasons to use it there will be no need to remove the bag.

All in all, the Rando is a solid bag with excellent organization, pack volume and stability.
