Of all the recent advancements in mountain biking, e.g., fat bikes, 27.5in wheels, carbon everything, and clutch technology in derailleurs, quite possibly the biggest progression is the Narrow Wide tooth profile found on this 104mm-BCD Race Face Chainring. This design helps retain the chain by preventing jump, which is due to a tighter interface between inner and outer links.

Now there's no need for heavy guides, and with the large-ratio spread of modern cassettes and 30- through 38-tooth options from Race Face, you can kiss redundant double- and triple-cranksets goodbye. The Narrow Wide Chainring has a 104mm four-bolt interface, and its 7075-T6 aluminum, aerospace-grade-strength 4mm-plate thickness transfers pedal loads without flexing. The Race Face Narrow Wide Chainring is only compatible with 104 BCD cranks, comes in 30, 32, 34, 36, and 38t options, and works with 9-, 10- and 11-speed drivetrains. Please note that the 30t option is threaded for standard M8x0.75 chainring bolts.

  • Comes in 30, 32, 34, 36, 38-tooth options
  • 30t option is threaded; requires standard M8x0.75 chainring bolts (sold separately)
  • Compatible with 9, 10, 11-speed drivetrains
  • 104mm bolt circle diameter with four-bolt interface

Does the job

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use the Raceface narrow wide chainring with an Eagle drivetrain and old XTR cranks and it works perfectly. No issues with the chain coming off thanks to the narrow wide design. The Raceface logo pattern is a nice touch and the anodization is high quality and comes in every color to match your other components.
But I have two complaints with this item. First is you need very specific, shallow chainring bolts that really should be included. Second is while aluminum is great for weight, steel is exponentially more durable. I do not understand the obsession of the bike industry to save a couple grams at the cost of durability, especially for mountain bikes.

Nice to have colors to choose from

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Reliable, solid construction, with multiple options to choose from. Great combination!

1X Chainring

This was an awesome purchase going from 2X to 1X system especially the color blue to match the blue Hope Pro hubs...

Converted my 3x to a 1x

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Works perfect. Easy install and no adjustments needed on rear derailleur.

1 Buy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Go 1x on your mountain bike if you have not. The price of this chainring makes it a no brainer for anyone looking to switch to a more simple drivetrain system, and you will have no regrets after switching.

Ditch the chain guide.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The best hing about the race face narrow wide ring is the fact that it is not 11 speed specific. You can even run the ring on your old 10 speed drive train and it virtually eliminates the need for the clunky chain guides of yesteryear.

Race Face wide-narrow tooth profile..

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The ultimate solution for anyone that wants to run a 30 tooth chain ring on any 4bolt crank. Race Face has specifically designed a wide-narrow tooth profile that keeps the chain really snug, allowing you to leave your chain keeper in the garage. I simply love this chain ring.

I'm looking to get a 30t narrow wide chainring and I'm confused by the m8x0.75 chainring bolts requirements. I'm coming from a 1x10 drivetrain (33t) and was wondering if that's still required?

Durable and Reliable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These chain rings come in at a reasonable price, last long, and do a great job keeping your chain on. Highly recommended.

Raceface narrow wide 32 tooth

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Absolutely love these chainrings! I run these on all my mountain bikes and it keeps the chain on securely!

Took an old triple and swapped out the middle ring for this to convert to 1x. Easy install and chain retention with the 11 speed chain is appreciated.

I would like to convert my bike into a 1x11. So I was wondering if the Race Face Narrow Wide Chain ring will interchange with the Race Face Next SL Carbon 2X10 speed cranks and go from a 2x10 to a 1x11 set up?

I looked at the info for my sram cranks to do the same and it works with it so my bet is that it would.

I bought this after Shae( She is great) from the bike dept at backcountry recommend it as part of the parts ( Shimano CN-HG600 11-Speed Chain,Shimano XT CS-M8000 Cassette,Shimano XT RD-M8000 Rear Derailleur, Shimano XT SL-M8000 RapidFire Trigger) to convert my baby (2016 Santa Cruz Heckler) to a 1 x 11. After a 100 miles I have not dropped my chain, some of those mile have been at bike park (mountain Creek NJ) which as some very rocky terrain. It looks good and performs like a champ, could not be happier; all done at a very reasonable price. My only regret is that i did not changed sooner to a 1 x11

I am glad to hear Shae took care of you and got you switched over to 1x11. It is the only way to ride!

1x FTW

Love these rings. I ran a 30T with 36 out back and now I run 32T with a 42 in back. I think it's just great. I never have lost a chain on this setup and it converts from 2x very smoothly. If you have a standard 12-36 cassette I would recommend going with a 30T unless you are very strong. That semi-granny can be nice for those long doubletrack slogs.

Great Chainring

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Race Face makes great products and this is no exception. The narrow wide works great for a single ring in the front and fits on my cranks effortlessly.
Plus you can pick them up in awesome colors.

Works Great

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This chainring will keep your chain on 99.9% of the time. Works great with 10 or 11 speed setups. If you are still looking for added insurance a simple top guide works great.

Simple and efficient!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I replaced the three rings on my Giant with a Race Face 32T because I only use the second ring anyway. It bolted right up and works fine with the stock rear derailleur. No other changes needed other than changing to single ring mounting hardware.

Simple and efficient!

$ Money $

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love the RaceFace Chainrings, they represent the best value in narrow wide rings, by a long shot. They function wonderfully and I do not hesitate to continue running them.
Other products used:
SRAM, WolfTooth, Chromag (SRAM Licensed), MRP Wave Ring.

I just wished they lasted a little longer, but that is the price you pay for a light weight narrow wide ring.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The middle 'ring on my 3x10 setup was toast, so I decided to make the leap to 1x11. This chainring works great and was able work with my (formerly) 3x crankset.

Solid componentry

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When I converted to a 1X system a month ago, this cog was one of the crucial pieces to my setup. It has already undergone several hundred miles, and has held up admirably on the steepest and most technical of climbs, as well as a couple of races. Quality product.
