Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've bought Troy Lee Mountain Bike Shorts before and liked them. However, these Ruckus shorts have several deficiencies as follows:
The legs are cut so tight they will not fit over my knee guards.
One of the front pockets is not zippered which isn't much use on a mountain bike trail.
The pockets are small.
One zippered pocket is halfway between the hip and bum - -very inconvenient location.
The air vent zippers, which held small items on previous Troy Lee shorts, now are just zippers with no space.
The front zipper to undo the pants is not covered giving the pants an unfinished look.
The material the pants are made of does stretch, but since the legs are so tight, the pants don't hang well at all.

On the plus side, the zippers are stout.

The quality of tailoring is exquisite. The zippers have large teeth and are very sturdy. The material is bullet tough. The minor flaws are
1) the legs are not very baggy and I am unable to wear my knee guards and 2) while there are 3 zippered pockets, the one on the back of the waist can hold only a power bar and one of the front pockets is quite small.

Five years ago I bought a pair of really tough Oakley bike shorts that were heavy duty with lots of pocket space. Oakley stopped making these and I looked for months for a replacement pair equal to the Oakleys. These Fox shorts are very close. Lots of pocket space, tough material and good fit. The only quibble is the exterior waist adjusting velcro straps which cause the waist to "bunch" against your skin when you cinch them up a bit. But other than that, they are great.

Pearl Izumi makes a mightly fine bike jersey. The material is high quality and retains its shape and color after washings. And so far, this shirt does not produce that "after the ride" ikky smell some shirts do. The zipper construction is solid and the fit is good. This brand is all I buy now after trying some cheaper shirts of another brand. PI has slick colors and designs on their shirts which make them shirts I love.
