Zach Bwrote a review of Selle SMP F30 Saddle - Men's on April 4, 2019
Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I'll preface the review with my experience with other Selle SMP saddles, which is to say that I like the concept of their more extreme-looking offerings but they're not really for me. I like to move around on the saddle; forward on the climbs, "steering" the bike just a touch with my legs and butt on descents, and so forth. So while I appreciate the genital and perineal relief of the saddles you're used to seeing, like the Drakon for example, they're not something I want to own.
Now, the F30. Selle SMP says that it will work for pretty much anyone, which is not a claim they make for their other saddles. Common issues I experience on other saddles are numbness on climbs due to being seated forward, and on my rollers where I stay seated in one spot, as well as rubbing on the "wing" area on longer rides. None of these issues exist with the F30. Additionally, since the nose doesn't drop too dramatically, I can shift forward on climbs and feel secure in that position.
The made-in-Italy build quality of the saddle is excellent. One drawback of the saddle is its cost, but having a beautifull-made saddle that fits and to some degree, improves the quality of my life, is worth it. Generally speaking, I hesitate to recommend any saddle because I know everyone is different, but this saddle is different. If you've had issues finding the right saddle, or even if you haven't, I would invite anyone to try this one. And if I'm wrong and it doesn't work, you can return a used item here within 30 days for store credit. If you're the kind of person who would buy this saddle, you can surely use that store credit on something, if not a different saddle.
All in all, I highly recommend this saddle. I never had a saddle that worked all that well for me before, but I would refer to rule 5 and carry on. You don't have to suck it up, and shouldn't. For me the F30 has made this possible.
