Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I bought these March 2015. I will admit I ride a lot, usually about 6 hrs/week, but less than 2 years later the heel cups of both shoes are shredded to the point that they're not usable anymore.
This was my third pair of Lake shoes over my 20 years of mtn biking and the first pair that fell apart. I tried emailing and calling customer service at Lake and never even got a response.
Despite the failure, they were comfortable from the first ride and I really have put them through hell it's just that my previous Lake shoes held up better. But all that aside, I am going to buy another pair as they were the best performing shoes I've ever had.
I have really narrow feet. The regular width was ok for me although I tended to have to nearly max out the BOA adjusters especially once the shoes had "warmed up" after a good 1/2 hour of pedaling. But the ability to adjust the tension while on the bike is amazing. It only happened a couple of times but I did have the BOA come loose on me in the middle of some high speed chunky downhill sections which was not confidence inspiring. It may be because my feet are so narrow and I had the adjusters tightened as far as they'd go. On my next pair I might experiment with a thicker foot bed.
I wear a 10 or 10.5 street shoe depending on brand and a 44.0 regular fit me perfectly in length.
