These aren't warm enough for temps below 50-55, but are so light they'll be perfect for spring mornings and fall evenings on group rides. If only they were 2" longer...
The fabric is lightweight, but very nice. Not nearly as tight as PI Barrier using my "hold tight over the mouth and blow thru it" test, but a nice dense fleece with excellent 4-way stretch.
The mesh "gripper" is a novel approach, and isn't all that grippy, but using long shorts with high compression they stayed in place nicely, and no irritation. You need to dress from the bottom up though; socks, warmers, bib shorts.
The mesh and very short length do prevent bunching on the inside the thighs against the seat; if you have this problem. Not sure if they would stay in place under bib tights as a 2nd layer though. My PI will, as they have silicone grippers on BOTH sides at the top of the warmer.
As the photo shows, these are over 4" shorter in size L than my 10yr old PI, and over 2" shorter than my new Voler warmers. I have a 29" inseam, so I find the PI a bit long, but the Garneau are too short, and not quite big enough to accommodate my heavy snowboarding socks either. Order a size larger, and use them on warmer days and you will likely love them.
