Familiarity: I've used it several times
I have a 31-32" waist w/ a 19" thigh measured 8" above my knee cap center. The chart would put me in a size M which all my other shorts are. But I opted for the large; given the compression fit combined with the Castelli fit reputation. The M may have worked w/ a very snug fit but the Lg. are still plenty snug w/ no bunching. I am happy w/ the fit. I think the tighter fit may wear much quicker from stressing the fibers but I could be wrong. At this price they get 1 star off - even tho I'd do it all over again. I hope they last as long as my $35 Carhartt work shorts. They are better than the Free Aero (same size) which are better than....and on down. I have long legs & a short torso so the seemingly tight straps aren't a problem. Someone w/ a long torso will have a different experience. The pad for me is much more comfy than the Free Aero & the lumbar support really worx. I've worn them several times w/ a couple 5+ hour rides & had no saddle issues at the end.
