Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Have been riding on Shimano shoes for 10+ years. Decided to replace some older 321s with these. I had grown use to the consistency in fit with Shimano in the past. These break that pattern. As other have noted the end of the toe box is narrower and/or the new shoe last is slightly shorter. So when wearing medium thick socks I can feel the toe of the shoe. This hasn't caused any irritation but it is there. The stack height appears to be slightly higher which caused me some knee pain until I raised my seat 1/8" higher. The boa lacing system is great except on one of my shoes the loop keeps coming unclipped from the track below the ankle. This happens 50% of the time when putting the shoe on and it is pretty fiddly to clip it back in without removing the shoe. The bottom of the shoe has changed enough that it was hard to move cleats from the 321s to RC7s and get the same alignment. It took several trial and error rides to get the cleat position right for me. I use custom fitted insoles so I don't have any experience with the RC7 Shimano insoles None of these issues are enough to make me want to return the RC7s. Now that I have them dialed in I generally like them. Just beware you may have to spend more time than expected fiddling with them to get your fit right.
