Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have an average foot width and average arch. These shoes fit true to size (i'm a size 9) and have a very comfortable fit. If you had a wider foot, I would imagine they might be snug, but for the average to narrow foot, these shoes fit very well.

I wear these for training and racing. The traction is great for trail, mud, snow, scree, and scrambling. The foot plate is firm enough to protect against rocks, but flexible enough so that it isn't cumbersome to push off. I really like the low profile, but I would opt for a higher profiled shoe if i felt ankle stability and protection was needed.

Overall, I opt for this shoe in all situations and conditions.

I use Acli-mate as a daily multi-vitamin to replenish any lost electrolytes after running/training. I also use it before a high altitude mountain race. I have found both uses to be beneficial to the way my body recovers (post-activity use) and adapts to changing elevations (in race mode).

Grape is my favorite flavor. It goes down easy, but does leave a lingering aftertaste. I typically mix one packet with 32oz of water to dilute the flavor a bit.

Light and Perfect for Mud/Grass

I turn to the S-Lab Sense 3 Ultra SG for racing on soft terrain (mud, loose dirt, grass, etc.). These shoes provide the best traction and they are super lightweight. Salomon's boa lace system that tucks into the tongue is perfect for situations where you are running or power hiking through thick brush. Why? The laces won't catch on branches like other shoes with traditional lacing systems.

The fit is more narrow through the arch than other Salomon shoes, so beware if you have a wide midfoot.

I have a sensitive stomach when it comes to using sports drinks during intense workouts or races. Skratch Labs has been the most gentle on my stomach compared to other drink mixes. I like the Lemon-Lime flavor especially. It is not too sweet, does not leave a lingering aftertaste (e.g. it has a clean taste), and provides much needed electrolyte supplementation when running in the hot summers of Utah. What I like most about Skratch is that it is made from natural ingredients (no "Natural Flavors" or chemicals), which is probably why I my stomach tolerates it so well.
