Ian Gonder's Bio

Hello All,

Grew up in Southwest Florida and found cycling while attending the University of Florida. After I graduated with a Finance Degree and found a "real job" I realized I wanted to race my bike. I quit my finance job, found a job at a bike shop and rode my bike almost every day.

I have raced road for 3 seasons and about to start my 4th. I race Cat 2 road, but just recently found gravel racing.

Gravel is fun and inviting. Admittedly, road racing and the culture can be a bit intimidating. Gravel is simply fun and everyone can enjoy themselves.

I have raced in many nationally recognized races:
-TOAD
-Florida Cycling Grand Prix
-Pensacola Cycling Classic
-Dirty Kanza

I recently transplanted to SLC to work at Competitive Cyclist and thoroughly enjoy it. The riding is fantastic and my coworkers and job are great.

If you want to discuss, road racing, gravel racing, mountain biking or anything else cycling related. Let me know, igonder@backcountry.com or 801-619-7476

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had the privilege to try a lot of cycling kits. I work at Competitive Cyclist and try out new kits on a weekly basis it seems. Most of them are good. They have a nice chamois, great build quality and use top of the line materials and fabrics. I really like most of the kits I try.

About a month ago I received some NX-G bibs from Giordana and thought these are good. They felt nice, the chamois seemed good and the materials were fantastic. I expected all that. Then I put the bibs on jumped on the trainer. WOW! These bibs are great!

They do everything all other bibs do well, but exceed in so many other areas. The straps are ventilated and have great stretch, the gradual compression on the legs is a nice feature and the length of the bibs is a little longer to support your entire quad and hamstring and the chamois is simply amazing! The chamois is incredibly comfortable in the saddle and supports your sit bones and breathes nicely, but the relief in the front is a game changer! It just holds everything in place really nicely and allows for a little extra space. I don't feel like anything is getting crushed or chafed. No readjusting to get it right.

These bibs are my go to bibs and I always do the laundry before a long or intense ride just to make sure I can take these on my ride.

This seatpost is super light and comfy. The finish is really nice and it installs easily. Comes with 7x9 clamp for carbon rails. Easy to get the tilt set and the clamp works well. The saddle has a small amount of play but that is expected on a side clamp system. I really recommend this post.

Based on the title you should know that every time I put on this jersey I feel like super man. I feel like a slip into this jersey (paired with NX-G bibs) and I produce about 50 more watts. New jersey doping for sure. i have only used it the trainer so far, but I have been really impressed with the fit and breathability. Excited to get out on a 100 degree Utah day to really test this jersey out!

I have owned the original Hammer and new H2. The H2 freehub is quieter, connects better to Bluetooth and changing resistance more naturally. And.. it is awesome looking! I really like this trainer. This trainer is also very reliable; Wahoo casts a shadow over the smart trainer market, but the Hammer and H2 have been the most reliable trainers we sell. If you want a trainer that connect well to third party programs and just works really well, buy this one!

Great jacket for layering. Wear a summer base layer and this jacket when the temperatures reach 60 and a winter base layer and jacket when the temps fall into the 40s. The 3 pockets in the rear are like a jersey and I recommend a wind vest if you are descending. Not much wind blocker material in this jacket. I enjoy this jacket and you should buy it!

I was riding these in St George for the weekend and they were perfect. It has mid to low 30s in SLC and these are not warm enough. But drive 4 hours south to southern Utah and the temperatures are upper 40s to low 50s. This is the temperature range these shine! The knickers are high quality and the chamois is what you would expect from Assos. Highly recommend these knickers and look forward to riding in them more come spring.

this mat is great. catches my sweat and makes the trainer a bit quieter for the neighbors. Not too thick or heavy, easy to roll up a get ut of the way when needed. this mat is just right

Some say the seams are bad and it seems that is wrong. I have used these many times and never an issue. They are a little thicker too, just a little added extra protection. Use them, like them, love them

You get a lot of flats in the winter. Ski bums like to throw glass all over the road, their second favorite thing to do besides shred the POW. It is cold and I need to fix my flats as fast as possible, it is race. I either have 100 psi in my tire or frost bite. These threaded CO2s make it easy. I like that they come in singles. These get the job don

Do you like a nice tight race fit? Do you like shiny things? Do you like comfort? Do you like looking fast? Do you like being aero? YES?! These gloves are for you. Great fit and high quality materials make for a comfortable and durable glove. There is a slight shimmer that really makes them pop! Highly recommend. One warning, they are very tight to put on. Great once they are in place!

I love this tape.

I have wrapped it, I'm not a pro but it came out pretty well. That is the tough part, now the fun part.

It looks awesome! And feels awesome. The only tape I have used that I don't feel like I need to wear gloves. The padding is great (not too bulky, but comfy) and the grip even when wet with sweat is great. And this is awesome.

Did I mention it looks awesome!

This tape is a winner in my book and I think you should buy it. You will be happy with your decision and making good choices is awesome.
