Familiarity: I've used it several times

My comments are in line with previous reviews. I typically wear a Large in Castelli's race-fit jerseys, but a Medium fit me well in this one, so I'd say don't size up. Medium is my usual size for every-day shirts. Stitching along seams is raised and not sewn flat, which was surprising, but it doesn't bother me. All in all, a solid addition for me.

Familiarity: I've used it several times

Like the dope I am, I now own three pairs of mid-line cycling shoes -- yep, I can't bring myself to spend $4-500 on a pair of top-of-the-line shoes, so I keep buying cheaper ones :-). Well, I think I can stop that now because I like these very much. I bought them during the TdF sale and they are even less expensive now.

I own the Sidi Genius mega, which fit me okay, though they are too wide in the heel cup. Overall they are a fine shoe, but I just don't like the uppers -- they feel like hard plastic (heck, that's probably what they are).

I also own the Northwave Evolution S.B.S., which I bought because I read that Northwaves sometimes run a bit wider. I did not find that to be true for this model, but they have broken in some, and I like them better than the Sidis, though they are a little heavy.

For me, the Lake CX217 has them both beat, and beat by a good margin. A real leather upper and available in wide width! I usually wear a size US 8.5 or EU 42. Given the sizing chart and previous comments, I bought a 42.5 and they fit me fine -- I probably could have gotten away with my usual 42. They are light and the boa is great, though--as others have noted--the single boa doesn't allow the fit to be adjusted locally. That said, they fit me well enough, so no big deal. Of course, if you move up to the CX237 you get two boas...

Anyway, 5 stars from me -- a lot of shoe for the money.
