58/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Wheel V2

Profile Design has been on the forefront of cycling aerodynamic development for decades and has been helping cyclist and triathletes simply go faster. It's aero expertise now extends into wheel design and these particular wheels, the 58/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Wheel V2 provide the right materials and design philosophy for a go fast set of wheels that come in at a much lower price point than its competition.

When creating the rim shape for the 58/TwentyFour, Profile used Computational Fluid Dynamics and logged many hours in the wind tunnel to determine the best profile that reduced drag and remained steady in crosswinds. Part of the criteria involved mapping out weather patterns at high-profile triathlon event locations to recreate real-world wind yaw angle conditions to test the wheel's behavior and gather this information in the wind tunnel.

This development is unique in that it tests likely real-world scenarios in a lab environment so when out on the open road the wheel will perform as designed with that said goal of less drag and more stability. As you probably already guessed, the rim's dimensions are in the name, 58mm deep with an external width of 24.5mm. That external width plays nice with the current trend of wider 25-28mm road tires and affords a lower pressure contributing to a plusher ride with lower rolling resistance. The rim's shape bulges slightly, with a rounded spoke-facing edge to help better manage crosswinds for more stability than traditional airfoil rims.

Profile uses its own high Tg point resin at the carbon braking surface for a claimed 30% increase in heat capacity compared to other high Tg resins commonly used in the industry. This correlates to more powerful and better modulating braking, even during inclement weather conditions and long descents than other carbon braking surfaces. The wheels also come with specific brake pads with a special compound that can handle the high heat and further helps reduce stopping distances.

While the rims are usually the star of the show with wheelsets, equally important are the hubs, and the ones here are worthy of the rims. They're constructed of forged than machined 6061-T6 aluminum with super tight tolerances providing a durable, strong, and extra-stiff hub shell. The freehub body is machined from 7001-T6 aluminum, which is then shot-peened after being hard anodized, resulting in a claimed 18% increase in strength over standard aluminum models. This reduces the tendency of the cassette's cogs from digging into the hub body and being a pain to remove the cassette off the freehub body.

The Profile Design 58/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Wheelset is handbuilt and compatible with Shimano and SRAM 9, 10, and 11-speed road cassettes. It ships with a valve extender, rim tape, skewer, brake pads, and extra spokes and nipples.
