Rove the whole range.
To light with the way without lighting your wallet on fire, a safe bet is the Portland Design Works Lars Rover 450 Headlight. As the second-most powerful headlight in the PDW catalog, the 450 is easily up to the task of lighting your way at night, and its elegantly simple design and smart features will make doing so that much better.
The sleek alloy case that contains the 450's CREE LED and related circuitry serves in form but also in function, as alloy serves to dissipate the internal heat of the light far better than plastic housing, which preserves battery life and bulb efficiency. The USB-rechargeable li-ion battery powers five different modes, including three different steady-beam intensities and two different flashing modes. There's a little warning light that lets you know when you have 15 minutes of charge left, and for all-around practicality, three different mounts are included: a screw-fastened bar mount for rough terrain, a quick-release mount for city riding, and a helmet mount.
The Portland Design Works Lars Rover 450 comes in one color only, and includes with it a USB charging cable and three different mounts. Fully recharging the lights takes about 5.5 hours.

Bright and Easy to Mount
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
This light is so bright and easy to mount to your handlebars, plus it clips on and off its mount easily (so you can slip it into your bag when you park your bike somewhere less secure). This is my first proper headlight for city biking and it is bright, simple, and USB rechargeable—perfect.
