Tough, light, and breathable.

Mountain bike gear has a tough job, but POC's Trail Vent Shorts manage to keep things light, durable, comfortable, and stylish all at the same time. They're long enough to cover knee pads but slim enough for easy pedaling, and they're made of a rugged but comfortable blend of nylon and spandex. POC hooked up an adjustable waistband so you can find the perfect fit, and zippered leg vents let you open the shorts up to catch a cool breeze. A series of zippered pocket keeps your gear safe and accessible, and reflective details on the back make the pedal back to the parking lot a little bit safer.

  • Two-way stretch fabric (93% nylon, 7% spandex)
  • Hook-and-loop waist adjustment
  • Zippered lower-leg vents
  • Zippered pocket at right side
  • Reflective hits

Nice baggy

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 32

Thick fabric, not hot or cold, vents work great, enough space for knee guards, waist adjustment works fine. Good to have zippered pockets.

Burly, yet light?

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 34

These shorts are a great compromise between burly/durable and light/comfy. The material is thick enough that it should withstand some wipe-outs, and does a solid job repelling water, but they are just light enough that I'm comfortable using them for all my XC riding. I might be more nervous about them being too thick for hot summer days, but the massive vents on either side make me confident I'll be happy all season.

My only complaint would be having just the zipper pocket on one side. I often bring my ID/credit card with me as well as my phone, so having a zipper on both sides is nice. I like the fit and style of them though so I'm going to make it work and just throw those in with my phone in the same pocket.

Sizing seems spot on to me. I'm always a 34 pant, got the 34s and they fit perfect. They stay up without tightening the velcro at all, but to actually lock them in well enough for riding I did tighten the velcro straps down about half way.

Best. Shorts. Ever.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 38

I've gone through my fair share of MTB shorts. Having legs like tree trunks doesn't make finding clothes that fit easy, any clothes, much less cycling clothes.

These POC shorts however... perfect!

Pros: Just the right amount of stretch! So important, so many shorts don't stretch at all. Great cut, super comfortable over my bib shorts. The built in waist adjustment works really well, snugs up good but not uncomfortable. The material dries quickly when wet and the pockets are nice and deep. Zip vents are a plus, but to be honest I have never used them.

Cons: For me, none. Some folks have complained about noise when walking? I mean... they are MTB'ing shorts. So, yeah.

Not really a con, but they do run a little large, you may want to go one size small. I prefer my shorts on the baggier side, so it wasn't a problem for me. I wouldn't say it's a whole size large, maybe about a half size. I am usually between a 36 and 38 depending on the brand of clothing, I got 38 and it was a little big, but it cinched up fine and the shorts never move, so I will buy 38's again. I like having the extra room as well for winter clothing.

All in all, great shorts. I plan on getting another pair just in case they change them and I don't like the new ones. :)

Noisy Like My 6th Grade Corduroy Pants‎

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: medium

Fairly stiff shorts that do have a great cut. However, the stiffness of the material doesnt stretch. Pedaling causes these pants to rub on your quads rather uncomfortably and make a rubbing sound that reminds me of my classic mid-70'd brown corduroy pants. A little annoying when you are out enjoying nature in the quiet backcountry. They are also a little thick, even though there is a vent down the sides, they still get a little stuffy elsewhere.

Well made and great performance

These shorts are great. The venting is a nice touch. They have two standard hand pockets in the front with a zipped front hand pocket as well. They run true to size and are definitely on the relaxed fit side of things. They have plenty of length to ensure there is no gap with pads.

Almost There

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

I got these for my man, who used to have the Flow shorts before tearing them to shreds in a nasty fall. The Trail Vent shorts have the same fit- he wears a 31 in pants, and the 30s fit great with the tab adjustments. The vents are pretty sweet, great for the hot days on the bike. The only complaint he has is on the pockets- they are silly small. When on the body, he can't easily get his hands in and out, they're way tight. Only slight design flaw, other than that- they're super!

Pilling in the seat area

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 32 waist

I love the fit 6'1" 175#
Length is great, size is true. Comfy too.
Never had pilling occur in any bike shorts.
Little balls of fabric from abrasion forming in the seat area. May need to return ? Otherwise I'd give a total 5stars.

Great first impression

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 34

I just picked these up the other day so this review is based off only my first impression.

The feel of the material is great. Feels strong enough that they can take some abuse but wont make you over heat. The leg vents seem incredible. I get hot easily and the option to open up the shorts for some extra air flow.

The two hand pockets are nice, could be a little deeper. One zippered pocket right next to the right hand pocket is also very useful for any valuables you might be riding with.

Length is good. Long enough for some coverage without looking like capris.

Overall I am very happy with the shorts so far. We will see how they hold up after getting put to use!

rad shorts!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are my favorite riding shorts. I'm 5'8" so most MTB shorts hang way below my knees, especially FR / DH shorts. The length on these is just right. They stay put around my waist thanks to the hook and loop adjustment straps. The belt loops are a welcome addition as well. I don't know why more shorts don't offer the open/close vents but it works. They do run a bit large, I have a 32" waist (ordered a medium) and have the adjustment straps as tight as they go.

A gift to big guys...

While I can't comment on the functionality of the shorts, yet, I figured it was somewhat prudent to review the size and fit since those seem to be the general theme of every other review.

First, I think it's worth pointing out that these shorts are adjustable.

Using a measuring tape and some guess work, I believe that the sizing uses the smallest possible waist size instead of the largest. This may be why some are struggling with finding the right size. For the most part, this is backwards to every other short on the market that I have come across. The 38 is a 38 when the velcro straps are done all the way tight. It's closer to a 40 when the straps are undone.

This is absolutely perfect since every other "XL" or "38" short that I've tried did not come anywhere near fitting me, even though most of my trousers have a 38" waist. These shorts are snug when tightened with the velcro, but give me room to expand, which means they'll still fit when spring comes around and I need to burn off my hibernation gut.

They're also mega comfy and the vents seems to be very useful. I wore them to the office the other day (mostly to show off) and I was surprised at how much of a difference the vents made at walking speed. They may be a little short for someone of my height, but that's par for the course.

We're headed to the bike park next week and I can't wait to give them a full shake down.

Fit too long, returned before riding

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

POC is a design focused company, but from what I'm learning first-hand that doesn't always always include research and development. These shorts look great in the photos and such, I dig the subtle design. The material is a nice weight, not too light or heavy. My reason for return was the length. I am more XC than DH, so let that be known. These hung way too far over the knee for me, even when seated on the bike. It would drive me bonkers to pedal with that rubbing over the front of me knee.

Hi. What is your height and waist size? What size did you bought?

WEEEEEE

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Best trail shorts I have ridden. Durable, abrasion resistant, and the huge side vents keep you cool in hot temps. I also really appreciate the belt loops! I would also recommend the POC padded under shorts to keep you safe!

I bought a second pair

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm an xc guy usually in lycra and I wanted something minimal that would look more casual on mtb trips and enduro events, these fit the bill perfect. There's only one functional pocket, but the vents do a good job of increasing airflow. I wear these over my bibs and they are almost as comfortable as just wearing the bibs. They are tight enough that they don't get hung up on the seat and they aren't flapping all over the place; I feel like I can move around on the bike just as I can in lycra.
