Description

It's got your back.

Giving your spine some extra protection when you're getting ready for a day of lift rides and big descents doesn't have to mean wrapping yourself in a bubble of unwieldy protection. If you're loathe to let go of your freedom of movement on the trail but know you need some extra reinforcement, we'd recommend the POC Spine VPD Air Vest. A first for the brand this year, the Spine Air follows a similar design to its beefier Spine VPD siblings on a slimmer, lighter platform. A mesh front takes advantage of the breeze you'll earn as you blast downhill to keep you cool, while a wide removable waistband allows you to streamline the fit even further if you choose. The three-layer VPO Air back protector even gets in on the ventilated fun, with holes carved throughout to facilitate airflow without impacting its ability to shield you when you go a little bigger than intended.

  • Light, airy spine protection will keep you cool and covered
  • Breathable mesh front with convenient zipper closure
  • 3-layer VPD Air spine protection adds airflow while it shields
  • Removable waist belt adds further fit customization
  • POC gear focuses on finding innovative ways to improve rider safety

lightweight protection

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I picked this up for chairlift days on my mountain bike. It doesn't provide as much protection as the VPD (non-air) versions, but it is very light and comfortable. It fits well under a jersey and is pretty low profile. If you're looking for shoulder / chest protection, check out the VPD Jacket.

Great Lightweight Back Protector!

Great piece of safety gear! I was starting to take my snowboarding more seriously with competitions, and a venue in Canada required you to have a back protector, so I did my research and came across this beaut and I love every bit of it. Once you put it on and start riding you forget you even have it on which is exactly what I was looking for. Had a few hard knocks but I can safely say my back stayed plenty safe! Pair with the POC Receptor Backcountry MIPS, I have a newly added confidence on the mountain. Another part about it that I didn't expect was how toasty it got. Its like a warm membrane wrapped around your upper body so layer accordingly! Would recommend the lightweight vest, or even the cheaper alternative spine. Odds are if you are debating wether or not you should get a back protector, get one. Better then spending the rest of your life in a wheel chair!!
