Essential for rowdy rides.

Before dropping into a steep trail with jagged rocks and imposing trail features, slip into the POC Joint VPD System Knee Pad for protective reassurance in case things don't go exactly as intended. This protective knee pad is a great addition to any trail rider's arsenal, especially across gnarly terrain where falls carry high consequences. Breathable perforations prevent excess perspiration, should you start to sweat while pedaling uphill for an extended duration.

Sitting at the heart and center of this protective knee pad, POC's ingenious VPD foam stays pliable until impact, at which point it stiffens up to disperse heavy blows. This means you'll be able to wear this pad while pedaling uphill, as it's non-restrictive nature won't sacrifice flexibility. Complementing the VPD padding, the high-tenacity shell is highly resilient from abrasion, so you won't suffer from a skinned knee after falling over rugged terrain.

  • Pliable knee pad for all-mountain rides
  • VPD padding stiffens upon impact to disperse force
  • High-tenacity shell is highly resistant to abrasion
  • Kevlar-reinforced stitching for bomber durability
  • Perforated ventilation promotes breathable comfort

Great Knee Pad

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These POC knee pads are high quality and a great price if you are not wearing braces. Comfortable enough for long days in the saddle. They do run a little small. If you are on the cusp of a size larger, go with the larger size.

Sizing (Sad trombone) runs small

Wanted these so bad! Only POC knee pads NOT made in XL. I normally have to get L or XL for big upper thigh. No way would L work. Surprised that L was so tight! And even if I have a normal MTB L leg i don't think this would pull it off. Now for how it is in performance? I hear it's PHENOM! I will never know.

    Sweet for long rides too

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I was hoping to have a paucity of data on these for a while yet, but no such luck. I took these on a 7 hour trail ride right out of the box, clipped a pedal on a rock at speed about 2/3 of the way through, and was thrown about 20 ft down a granite and manzanita strewn slope. The good news is that the pads are awesome. The bad news? I have to buy a new crank.
-Extremely protective: Nearly as good as DH specific pads. My boulder field landing didn't leave a bruise (on my knees anyway).
-Very comfortable: No hot spots or chafing, and minimal thigh constriction. I'm at the larger end of the L size (blame telemarking) and wouldn't want them any tighter for sure... but maybe they'll stretch a bit?
    -Stay put: 'Nuff said.
-Robust: Almost zero physical evidence that they've saved my knees from decomposed granite.
-A little hot for long pedally rides: but still worth it for the protection in my opinion. Compared to some of the super-light pads (G-Form and Leatt Air Flex) they're hotter, but honestly, they pretty much disappeared from my consciousness within 15 minutes.
-I wish they had a slightly larger size for those of us with thunder-thighs.
-Price. Sheesh. That's what I'm taking a star off for.

    Unanswered Question

So for a gray knee panel, it's another $40 over the VPD 2.0?

    Great DH pad

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I wanted something a bit more protective for lift access riding, as I have the G-Form stuff for my more aggressive trail rides. I took a look at these and knew they would work well. They are not the most well ventilated, so I wouldn't use them for longer rides with a lot of pedaling, but the flexible VPD padding is super comfortable and leaves zero pressure points, but at the same time is really protective and has saved my knees already on several occasions.
