Description

Steadfast staple for the go-fast crowd.

One of the most versatile shorts in POC's line-up, the Men's Essential XC Short combines a pre-shaped design that's slightly less baggy than traditional trail offerings with a lightweight, stretchy fabric that's treated to repel light rain showers and puddle splashes on the trail. This pre-shaped design makes it an excellent choice for the swift pedaling of cross-country rides, seeing the rear is shorter for uncompromising movement and the knees are a bit longer to ensure full coverage. Toss them over your favorite padded liner short or pair them with a supportive spandex short for hours of continuous comfort when you're training or just riding for plain old fun.
  • Reliability and comfort for cross-country riders
  • Lightweight stretch fabric for uncompromising movement
  • Water-repellent finish beads off showers and splashes
  • Pre-shaped design allows for swift pedaling movements
  • Hook-and-loop waist adjusters provide a slip-free fit
  • Pockets sealed from the elements with YKK Vislon zips

basic shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The POC essentials is just not quite at the top of my list. I don't ride baggies a ton but have a few pairs I'll rotate through. These are a very basic short, which is good for someone like me. I don't need/want a lot of pockets or storage. I just don't carry anything in my shorts. if you do these are not the shorts you'd want. Also not a lot of fit adjustment. Mine fit ok so I can use them, but the velcro has worn at the bibs I wear underneath. I am 5'7" 130lbs with almost 29" waistline and wear a size S. and have to take them to a pretty small setting on them. They get a passing grade from me for just a very basic pair of shorts, nothing to blow me away.

Your bibs' alter-ego

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

If you're like me, you have a few pair of beloved road bibs that see action both on and off-road. For most of what I do, this setup works pretty well. Most of the mountain bikes that I ride feature between 100 and 120mm of travel, and my ideal trails feature a distinctive lack of drops, jumps, and bros in full-face helmets.

The XC short is perfect for those days when you're not lining up between the tape, and you want to put off a "chill-er" vibe, and add some leg-protection to the equation. They're close-cut, and the materials are absolutely excellent. Think of them as the "anti-baggy baggy short." The only knock against them in my book is the waist; which is a little too wide to accommodate my waist in a size that doesn't leave my biker-legs shrink-wrapped. All in all, I'm going to chalk it up as a win for my friends in Sweeden!

I'm 5'10 with a 30in waist and 31in inseam. Let me know if you have any questions!

weird fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Size Bought: M

I really wanted to like these shorts, but the looseness around the hips combined with the stretchy, grippy fabric throughout meant that as soon as these shorts get sweaty they snag on your saddle and try to pull themselves down. I am a medium in every other short, normal proportions, but these just didn't work for me.

Great fit/feel

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small initially

At first I read the reviews about it running small, but i found that not to be the case. I'm a size 32 waist, so based on the reviews of a medium (32) being too big i ordered a small, did not fit well, definitely too small. Returned for a Medium. I would say this runs true to size, albeit a more fitted style short. If you want huge baggies, these aren't for you. These are an XC cut "baggy" short.

great pedaling shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

size is a little big these 32 are a little lose on me ... great pedaling shorts no rub spots ... material is very comfy

Get out your sowing kit

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I like the shorts except for the waist. The waist is too large compared to the rest of the shorts and the velcro straps are pretty much useless. I had to sow additional velcro onto to the shorts to get them tight enough. After that I wore them all last season without issue. That being said I expected more from POC and I'll probably stear clear of their products in the future.

I also had to sow on extra velcro. Other than that, I really like these shorts.

I should have Returned this

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I should have Returned this. Initially Size L was fine, then after a couple of rides it became too big for my 36" and small Velcro straps are useless and damage your shirt..waist. Bad quality product.

Returned after one ride

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: M

Size medium was too big for my 32" waist. There are no belt loops and the velcro straps on the sides have limited range of adjustment. The fit was slim in the thighs, but the seat and crotch were so loose that they kept catching on the nose of my saddle and pulling the shorts down.

Love em!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Quality materials, slim fit, and great looks. What's not to love?
