Shut Off Valve

You don't have to be the fix-it type to appreciate what the Platypus Shut Off Valve can do for your leaky hydration tube. Simply swap your defective unit out with this superior valve, which starts and stops the flow of water through your drinking tube with a quick turn. The Shut Off Valve also features a 90-degree angle which makes for more ergonomic sipping while you’re in motion.

Works but leaks if valve is unlocked

I've put it through the wringer

Not a badly designed piece, but the replacement (not the original) has always leaked when the valve is unlocked, which forces me to always be locking and unlocking it.

    Conserve Water

I've put it through the wringer

This is another must have addition to the Platypus Hydration system along with the bite valve cover. Both of these were not the easiest install, but I sure am happy that I did purchase and install them. Anyone who has ever dumped out all too much water due to their pack squishing their bite valve will appreciate this fine little upgrade that much more. Like all other Platypus products that I have used, this product is simple by design, functional, and durable.

Stops leaks, a little difficult to use

    I've used it several times

The bit valve on my Platypus was always leaking or dripping, so I purchased this valve. It completely fixed the leaking problem, and overall I’m happy with it. My only complaint is that I found it a bit difficult to open and close. There isn't really anything to grab onto in order to twist it open, and I feel like it would be even harder to use in winter with gloves on. Also, with the valve on, I can’t easily fit the hose through the space in my hydration pack. Not having the hose dripping is worth it, but it’s not a perfect solution.

    Perfect replacement part

    I've used it several times

My Platypus came with the shut off valve, which unfortunately broke during a recent hiking trip (no fault of the product!). This is the exact same piece that was on there before. It was easy to install and works like a charm.

    Must have!

A shut off valve is a must have for any hydration system. The angle this adds makes it much easier to use the hydration system, and it makes sure you don't lose any water from the bite valve getting pinched. It also allows you to remove the bite valve and hang a hydration bladder like the big zip from a tree and use this as your camp faucet. I left it hanging overnight one time to try and get it to leak, and in the morning, there was no sign of any leaking.

    how do you instal it

It's super easy. Just remove whatever is currently on the end of your drinking tube and put the blue part into the hose leading to the reservoir. The bite valve then goes on the clear part.

    Platypus Shut Off Valve Rocks!

I've put it through the wringer

I'm a huge fan of Platypus products (see my reviews of their GravityWorks water filtration/storage system and Platy SoftBottle water bottle). I added a Shut Off Valve to my kit a couple of years ago and have since bought more. The valve does what they say: 1) a quick turn of the valve keeps water from leaking (say, in the event of a pinched bite valve); 2) the 90-degree angle makes mid-stride sips a breeze. This lightweight accessory (0.2 oz) is recommended. Note: Pic below shows my son's Platypus Shut Off Valve atop pack before 20 mile loop in Utah's Canyonlands N.P.
