We're eating up chunder and relishing the climbs on the new Pivot Trail 429 Pro X01 Eagle Mountain Bike. This trail machine has its roots in the cross-country scene with the new frame redesign, but that doesn't stop it from crushing the downhills. Specced with burly rubber and tough carbon components we won't be letting any kind of trail slow our roll. DW-linkage in the rear calms things down and provides a bottomless feel on the descents, all while transferring the max amount of power while we're climbing.
Geometry on this version of the 429 is dialed for a competent trail bike that relishes the descents as much as it pushes us up the climbs. A flip-chip in the rear lets us choose between 'slack' and 'slacker', so naturally, we're going for the slacker option. In this setting, the headtube drops to 66° all while keeping a relatively steep seat tube angle of 75°. Combined with a middling wheelbase of 1188mm(size M) we're having fun no matter what direction the trail goes or how long the next descent is.
Helping us keep the fun between the legs and a smile on our faces is the DW-link suspension paired with supple Fox suspension. DW-linkage makes for an incredibly efficient pedaler, eliminating pedal input from affecting our suspension. The Fox Factory squish works overtime, giving us a great bit of kit for descending prowess while being light enough to not punish us on the uphills. Drivetrain duties on the Trail 429 are taken care of by SRAM, with X01 Eagle giving us tons of range and quality shifts every time.
Rolling on DT Swiss wheels has us approaching every jump and drop with confidence we'll make it down the other side. Beefy Maxxis rubber offers no excuses as far as grip goes, the Dissector's shed off huge rock gardens and help us punch way above our weight on tricky descents. In-house Phoenix parts take up where our hands and sit bones go, with carbon bars absorbing some chop and a WTB saddle to sit on. A Fox dropper is specced to come in varying lengths depending on bike size, so our XL-sized friends don't have to deal with the same dropper our S-sized buddies do. We're beyond excited to crush the next local loop aboard the Trail 429, cruising up climbs and hitting the descents as hard as we do on our really big bikes.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
