Riding bikes should be the best part of our day and the Pivot Switchblade 29 Team XTRLive Valve Carbon Wheel Mountain Bike makes sure that every drop, huck, gap, and transfer might just be the best part of the year. The most recent iteration of the Switchblade gives us a more powerful and confident bike in the techy bits, and a quick descender when the enduro segment starts. Built to be playful and fun, we’re riding this bike in everything and everywhere from the local cross-country loops to the lift-assist bike park. Competent suspension layup and a strong carbon chassis support our best and worst riding, while the FOX Live Valve Technology takes care of suspension duties faster than we can think.
Geometry on the Switchblade is as dialed as ever with a new rear-shock position and even more progressive numbers to match. This new shock position shaves off grams and allows Pivot to fit the technology-driven FOX Live Valve system to any size frame. Live Valve works with our suspension to give us a ‘no mess’ feel, ie., we won’t be needing to mess with dials anymore. Developed originally on large rally trucks, LiveValve thinks faster than we do by adapting the suspension in milliseconds to the terrain. This system allows us to only focus on the trail, confident knowing that our suspension and its technology are keeping us planted through all the chunder, fire roads, and jump lines we find.
Built for big sends and crushing chunder lines, we’d be mistaken to think that the bike isn’t pedal ready. A top-of-the-line Shimano XTR drivetrain system proves otherwise, giving us 12-speeds of precise and perfected shifting performance. The drivetrain uses the Hyperglide+ system which has been designed to smoothly shift up and down the cassette even while under load. Suspension on the bike is procured from FOX, a 36 Factory fork up front and a Factory DPX2 in the rear are both equipped with LiveValve technology.
The new Switchblade makes riding trail loops, enduro laps, and downhill park rides on the same day easy with help from LiveValve tech. The FOX system gets 16-20 hours of battery life, but even in the event of a missed charge, the system will automatically throw the gates wide open for trail fun. LiveValve also uses multiple settings of adjustment, so we can tell the system how much input we want in our ride. Carbon hoops from DT Swiss support the rolling duties, these lightweight yet bombproof wheels and hubs stay consistent mile after mile with extrememly minimal maintenance. The full-carbon finishing kit really puts this ride above the rest, and we’re reserving it a spot in the living room for the rare times we’re not shredding trail on the new steed.
*Due to unprecedented demand in the global supply chain and the bike industry over the last 18 months, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be minor. If you have any questions, reach out to a Gearhead by chatting online or calling 1-888-276-7130.
