Why We Like The Pivot Mach 4 SL Pro XT/XTR Carbon Wheel Mountain Bike
Cross-country racer at heart but reborn to be more capable and fun, the Pivot Mach 4 SL enhances performance while making no compromises. We love the Pivot Mach 4 SL for its ultralight frame, adjustable geometry and travel, and recent frame improvements that don't lose sight of its race origins. Pushing the boundaries to make the Mach 4 SL more capable but still with a World Cup focus, Pivot elevated what a cross-country race bike could be and slackened the head tube, steepened the seat tube, lengthened the chainstays, reach, and wheelbase, all while shaving weight by 280 grams from the previous model's frame. The Mach 4 SL also features a new rocker link incorporating a flip chip for adjustable geometry. Now equipped with 106mm of premium DW-Link suspension over the previous 100mm, the Mach 4 SL is more capable than ever and also gives us the option of changing to 115MM when we adjust the geometry, allowing us to easily change our ride to better suit the terrain. With a 66.7-degree head tube angle when equipped with a 120mm fork, the head tube angle is much slacker compared to the previous model, allowing us to be more composed and confident when descending. A longer reach and wheelbase allow us to be more stable on the descents, and a steeper seat tube angle puts us in a more efficient climbing position to make short work of the technical climbs. The improved DW-Link suspension and redesigned rocker link not only bring us more travel but give us more efficient pedaling performance and improved traction in various scenarios.
The Pro XT/XTR Carbon Wheel build of the Pivot Mach 4 SL is race-ready and features an impressive components spec that won't break the bank. Pivot's premium carbon frame went through a weight loss program this year, shaving 280 grams over the previous version, giving us a stiff, lightweight, and premium carbon fiber frame. Shimano's mixed XT and XTR drivetrain provides reliable shifting that sports incredible value for the build, giving us a reliable, wide-range drivetrain known for its precision. For some lightening fast race wheels, Pivot slapped on the Reynolds Blacklabel 309/289 XC rims paired with Industry Nine Hydra hubs to give us a top-tier wheelset capable of turning heads. A Fox Factory 34 StepCast fork with 120mm of travel is lightweight, has compression and rebound adjustments, and helps to smooth out the trail. Rounding this build off, the new Fox Factory Float rear sock gives adjustable suspension performance and ground-gripping traction, and a remote lockout with a handlebar-mounted SRAM TwistLoc allows us to easily lock out our shock for climbing efficiency.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
