Bluetooth Right Side Power Meter Installation Kit for Consumer Supplied Cranks

Riding and training while using power as a metric might be the single best upgrade if you want to get faster on the bike. We've been a fan of crank based power meters for their ease of use and accuracy but we usually cringe at the thought of having to remove a perfectly good crank to do so. That changes if you have a Shimano Dura-Ace 9100 or Ultegra R8000 crankset as Pioneer gives cyclists a more affordable way to gather precious power data with its Bluetooth Right Side Power Meter Installation Kit for Consumer Supplied Cranks. By splitting its complete power meter system into multiple, free-standing pieces, Pioneer essentially provided a gateway to get into the watts-measuring game gradually rather than dropping over $1,000 at once. The Right Side Power Upgrade Kit is actually just a box that you drop your drivetrain crank arm and chainrings in and ship it off to Pioneer. While there, it transforms your mundane crankset into a power meter-equipped data monster. Of course, the process isn't magical or mysterious at all. It's simple. While Pioneer has your drive-side crank arm, it will install a power meter sensor to it, and the only labor you need to worry about is re-installing the crank.

The Right Side Power Upgrade Kit is perfectly capable of functioning as a stand-alone power meter; however, when combined with Pioneer's non-drive-side power meter, it opens the door for more accurate measurements by logging numbers for both legs rather than just doubling the readings recorded through a single crank arm. While the Single Leg system works well, the Dual Leg model takes your numbers and training to the next level.

This system uses strain gauges on the driveside arm to measure pedaling force, direction, and overall efficiency as you ride, and it's right on par with industry standards at +/-2% accuracy. The power meter unit has a sleek, tri-lobed Pioneer pod that sits snugly between the top junction of the spider and outer chainring, and only adds a few grams for the sensors. As you pedal, the sensors capture, with precision and accuracy, force detection at 12 locations at almost 200 times per rotation. By recording information at multiple points, Pioneer is able to deliver a single accurate measurement that takes the right crankarm and the entire pedal stroke into consideration.

Riding through significant temperature or elevation fluctuations can wreak havoc on power meter accuracy if it's not able to acclimate on the go. Pioneer knows how frustrating it is to have to re-zero your device on-course, and how tough it is to recover momentum lost while you freewheel to let the unit zero. To address this common problem, it developed Zero Point Calibration with Active Temperature Memory Adjustment for its power meters. Essentially, the technology allows the power meter to anticipate and adapt quickly to environmental changes so that you don't lose access to accurate data when you need it most.

The power meter is compatible with ANT+ and now Bluetooth head units and phones, which makes using it with your favorite fitness apps or other ANT+ and Bluetooth compatible devices simple. To further analyze each of the 12 force vectors individually and gain access to Pioneer's new HDPower Metrics and Cyclo Sphere program, you can add the Pioneer cycling computer to your setup.
