Description

X-Alp Flow Cycling Shoe

If you're a mountain biker that prefers to ride flat pedals, you understand how critical it is to have a grippy shoe that keeps your feet glued to the pedals when the trail gets rowdy. The Pearl Izumi Men's X-Alp Flow Cycling Shoe does just that, thanks to a dual compound rubber sole designed for maximum traction on the pedals. Sticky siped rubber at the ball of the foot creates positive pedal pin engagement and stability, while chevron-shaped lugs made from more durable rubber are used at the toe and heel for hike-a-bike durability and scrambling confidence. The seamless upper uses minimal overlays for a lightweight feel that molds to your foot shape, eliminating hot spots and providing all-day pedaling comfort when you're on a big ride deep in the mountains.

  • A flat pedal shoe designed for unwavering grip and durability
  • Dual compound sole for confidence-inspiring traction
  • Tacky rubber in pedaling zone offers positive pin engagement
  • Harder rubber in heel and toe area for hike-a-bike durability
  • Lightweight upper with minimal seams eliminates hot spots
  • Traditional lace closure for a precise fit and all-day comfort
  • Lace lock keeps your laces away from the drivetrain
  • EVA midsole absorbs the shock from hard landings

Disappointing product

I've edited this review a number of times as I don't usually write negative reviews. The shoes fit well on my size 12M feet, look good, have appropriately short laces, isolate the foot from pedal pressure but provide very poor grip. They are not grippy or tacky or confidence inspiring as described. They slip around and off my MKS Sylvan Next Touring pedals and much worse on my ISSI large platform pedals. The shoe sole glided easily over the ISSI grip pins which was abit terrifying. My Teva sandals have proven a much better grip option. I bought these based on the glowing product description so now feeling disappointed in the brand and the seller. Two stars overall (at least they fit and I can wear them) but one star for the overly optimistic product description. I can't return as 'unused' at this point and not willing to pay shipping cost to return for store credit. I'll use them for neighborhood rides and be more cautious with on line orders. Caveat emptor.

They look nice and are constructed well however they do not give any grip to the pedals. I have no idea how these were developed and actually sent out to the public as a MTB shoe. The area that is specifically designed for grip is actually much more slippery than the rest of the shoe. These are dangerous for any type of aggressive riding. It is amazing that the product department did not test these or just released them with them being flawed. I dislike giving bad reviews but I just rode these today and was so let down. I will probably just use them for bike path rides with the kids, it is the only thing they are good for.

These shoes are low cost and comfortable to walk in but are scary to ride with. The rubber is way too hard and provide no grip even on very aggressive flat peddles with super sharp and long pins. When I road with them for the first time I was so afraid of slipping off the peddles I had to ride as slow as I could. I had hoped the rubber would break in and soften up but no such luck. If you want an even moderately grippy shoe stay away from these. Bought a pair of five ten free ride pro and couldn’t be happier!

my experience was the same - scared me to death.

Haha, yes me too. Just bought a pair of five ten. lesson learned

Shameful

Pearl Izumi should be embarrassed for making such a shoe. Build quality is great, comfort is great, walking and support are great. Weight is great (amazing actually). However, they completely missed the mark with its intended purpose, a riding shoe. The center patch on the sole (meant as the grip section), is only 1/16 inch thick and rock hard, super slick plastic. There isn’t even texture to the sole to prevent slip. I ride Diety Pedals and there is absolutely no grip whatsoever. Imagine strapping soda bottles to your shoes!!. I can’t figure out how this shoe got past their product testing. Shameful. Stay away.

Couldn’t agree more... they are dangerous for any serious rider!

If your looking for a good looking shoe to take you from the trail to town this is a great choice. Good pedal grip and all day wear comfort. Fit true to size.
