Escape discomfort.

At the end of last season, you vowed to yourself that you wouldn't dare ride another mile in your old shorts. The legs are stretched out, the chamois is an abrasive shell of its former self, and you're fed up with having to tug the shorts back into place every time you reposition. As next season quickly approaches, don't deny your shorts the retirement they've worked so hard for. Pearl Izumi's Elite Escape Shorts are eagerly waiting to become your go-to piece of kit, and with their contoured fit and effective mix of technical features, they deserve to be just that.

Pearl Izumi starts by constructing the Elite Escapes with its ELITE Transfer fabric, which relies upon a mix of nylon and Lycra fibers to ensure moisture is rapidly pulled away from your skin as you ride. Lycra also gives the shorts their sleek, second-skin fit, which allows them to move with you as you ride without bunching or losing their shape. Pearl Izumi chose a V-shaped waistband, which wraps around your midsection softly and securely and sits far more comfortably than heavy elastic bands while you're stretched out in the saddle.

Instead of the thin, withering chamois you shudder to remember from last season, you'll be treated to Pearl Izumi's robust ELITE 3D chamois with the Elite Escape short. It offers flexible, strategically-layered cushioning for protection during long days in the saddle without feeling restrictive. Additional features like a cleverly hidden side stash pocket and reflective accenting give the Elite Escape Shorts the versatility they need to become a valued piece of your cycling wardrobe.

they fit and look great. Would definitely order a 2nd pair if they still were available in my size.

Great fit, great chamois, perfect length.

Overall I love these shorts. They fit great. i've worn them on my last 3 60+ mile rides and have no complaints!

Good price

I have to agreed with other customers that these shorts run a bit small. Not uncomfortably small, however, I would order one size up. The legs tend to ride up and are a bit shorter than I normally prefer. I do like the material.

good value on sale

Overall these are very comfortable, and the legs stay in place. Pocket on the side of the leg is more useful than I had imagined it would be. My only complaint is that the waistband immediately folds over on itself in front, as there is nothing in its construction (like an internal piece of elastic?) to maintain rigidity. It's not uncomfortable, but I'd rather have either a waistband that stayed put or not have one at all. I do appreciate that the waist comes up plenty high in the back though. Given the sale price, however, I can't really complain -- these are a great value.

As for sizing, I'm a 6 -- and usually a small -- in street clothes, and the medium is fine for me, though maybe I could have gone down to a small. I would say they run maybe a half, but not full, size small. More like sizes from 15 yrs ago, or sizes in Europe.

Great Shorts

I just wore these shorts for a 40+ ride today and they were great. I needed to upgrade my older Pearl Izumi shorts which were definitely for shorter rides and not the best for longer ones. The material is very light and did not ride up my leg. They were super comfortable and the chamois is much plushier without being bulky and lended to a less painful ride. The waistband was very comfortable as well and did not cut into my stomach and sides. I heeded other reviewers advice to order a size up and they fit fine. I didn't not order my usual size so I can't compare if they would be too tight but I can imagine they would. Can't wait to wear them again!

Great Shorts

I recently started mountain biking and these were the first pair of bike shorts that I ordered. I was a bit skeptically of what size to order based on previous reviews, but decided to go with my gut and order my regular size (M). They ended up fitting perfectly and are very comfortable. Definitely will be buying another pair in the future.

Great shorts - but ordered wrong size

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

Only reason this isn't 5 stars is after reading the reviews about these running small, I mistakenly ordered a medium. Pearl Izumi is my go to brand because I love the fit and the pads in the elite and PRO are the best. I have this style in the knickers in small as well, but other reviews stated to size up. My advice for sizing is: if your body type is 'pear', size up. if your hips are narrow or body type is 'apple', order your normal PI size. I'm hoping to exchange for a small.

Smaller?

I always wear S in Pear Izumi. I could not even get these up. Exchanging for Med.

Seems shorter than 8 inches

These go halfway down my thigh, and I think that's too much leg, personally. I think this is shorter than 8 inches.

    Great fit

Consistent fit with all my Pearl Izumi shorts. Good length and coverage with just the right amount of stretch.
