Description

Tri Fly Select V6 Cycling Shoe

Grudgingly, you have to admit your first tri was, in some ways, pretty fun. Your second one too. And now you've just signed up for two more before summer's end. If you're going to make a habit of swimming, biking, and running for time on the weekends, stop costing yourself time in T1 fiddling with the dials and buckles on your road shoes. Invest in the Pearl Izumi Men's Tri Fly Select V6 Shoe and simplify T1 without sacrificing fit and function during the bike leg.

Inspired by its pricier siblings further up Pearl's tri shoe ladder, the Tri Fly Select V6's accessible price point is kinder to newer triathletes who have a long, expensive list of gear to gather up before they see an age group podium. Though it isn't pro-level, the shoe still comes with a carbon-reinforced nylon sole, seamless, quick-drying uppers, and a comfortable two-strap wrap closure that pulls those pliable uppers close around your foot. Pearl specifically positioned the straps away from pressure points that could impede circulation so that numbness and hot spots don't interrupt your bike leg or your triumphant, slightly wobbly jog into T2.

  • Clean up your T1 splits and invest in a tri-specific shoe
  • Uppers dry quickly post-swim and conform to your foot
  • Carbon-reinforced sole earns 8/13 on Pearl's stiffness scale
  • Direct-Vent technology helps sole drain water and breathe
  • EVA foam and rubber along heel eases running in transition
  • Select insole adds fatigue-reducing support along your arch

I've done a lot of triathlons including an IM. That doesn't mean I know what I'm talking about because these are my first pair of triathlon shoes. So far these have made going sockless an easy transition. No blisters or hot spots for me. I wear a size 9.5 running shoe with socks. I ordered a 43 in these shoes and they fit without socks. There might be "better" shoes out there but for this price, I couldn't be happier.

I'm not sure what the other reviewers were expecting for the price. These shoes are a great value. When you consider the price of quality cycling shoes, these are on the lower end. I don't do many triathlons so I didn't want to make a big investment in Tri shoes. They're a sock-less shoe that is much quicker and easier to get on when transitioning from the swim than regular cycling shoes. I was also surprised how comfortable they were. As for size, all of my other cycling shoes are 43 so I ordered a 43 in these and guess what. They fit the same as my other shoes. So I would say they run true to size. Depending on the brand of non-cycling cycling shoes I wear a 9 or 9 1/2. So a 43 in cycling shoes hits the sweat spot for my size.

I just received these shoes the pull strap on the back was already ripped. Overall the shoe fit and felt comfortable, but I am concerned with the quality.

I have used alot of Pearl Izumi products in the past to include their running shoes. I knew their sizes ran a bit small so initially ordered a 46, which stated a US size 12 (I normally wear 11.5). When I got the first pair, they were very small. In fact, I had my doubts that a 47 would work (12.5 US), but that was the largest pair that BackCountry sold. So I returned the 46 and ordered a 47. Unfortunately, they also too small. Thankfully, Backcountry is great for returning an item. So I will return these and yes, I will try a 48 as I do like the construction and versatility.
