Great for indoor cycling

Familiarity:

I like the Sugar Short for indoor cycling. The padding is great and they are just long enough to prevent chafing. I’ve owned several pairs. The little side pocket is great for holding a tissue or whatever. Bike shorts always run small and these are no exception.

Need constant adjusting

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

These ride up my thighs and need constant pulling down or else I look like I'm wearing padded underwear. Perhaps there isn't enough meat on my chicken legs to keep them in place. Would return if I could.

I was skeptical at first!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Like others I was looking for a shorter cycling short as I'm in the South/Climate Change is taking effect and it is HOT out. I read alot of reviews on this short and I sized up as recommended. I am so glad I did! I'm 5'7" 127 lbs, athletic build with lean legs and I typically wear a S in bottoms but I'm so glad I sized up to a M, they fit perfectly. As for the padding when I felt how thin it was I was very skeptical. Lately I've been having some right side sit bone pain when I ride (even on short 8-12mi rides) and I didn't experience that at all with these! Amazing! I also didn't experience them riding up my legs/waistband curling over. All around a great buy and if you're hesitant, I highly recommend!

Run small

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I really like these shorts but they do run small. I ordered a medium after reading other reviews. I would not want these a millimeter smaller. I have a pair of traditional Peral Izumi bike shorts in a small and the medium Sugar 5 Short is snugger than the small pair. My guess is a large would be too big, but the large was out of stock so not an option when I ordered. I like the shorter short as I don't end up with a weird tan line gap when I wear regular shorts.

I really like these shorts but did order the size up from what I usually wear. They fit just right. The pad is nice and cushiony for the bumpy roads I ride on. They stay in place and I have not had any issue with them riding up on me.

Meh - I thought i would love them

I have an older model of these in black same size which i love. I got the same size again and hate the feel and fit of these ones in blue. I kept having to pull my shorts down the entire ride as they would ride up constantly. They felt tight and not right. it felt like I had on booty shorts - am i doing this wrong?! I wasnt impressed and miss the old model of sugar shorts :(

Great biking shorts

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I love the shorter length option for biking shorts as they look cute and are very functional! Excellent padding and no chaffing or riding up. I would air on the side of sizing up if you are between sizes.

Good length

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I was really concerned when I ordered these right before a trip that they would be too small, but they fit well. I had an older pair of bike shorts from this brand in a size small and so that's what I went with, not sure if that was the right choice based on other reviews. It's always confusing to gauge the correct size if you're even a bit tall because size charts scale the weight up too, hence me leaving a review in the event it helps someone. (Just double-checked the size chart and if I just based my size off of that (waist/hips) I would have ordered the XS, so I guess measure yourself after a large meal, or go up one size.) I like the length of these ? long enough that your legs don't rub against the saddle, but short enough to be stylish, as stylish as padded shorts can be. Hah. And they stay in place. The little credit card mesh pockets on the sides could be redesigned. Maybe a bit deeper or some sort of snap/velcro at the top. Somehow I didn't end up losing any cards, but way too many times I looked down after riding for a bit and realized I forgot to put them away and they were about 50% out of the pocket. So, if you're easily distracted, just don't use the pockets.

Runs small

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I should have listened to the other reviews because these definitely run small. I always wear a small for shorts and I have pretty thin legs so I didn't want the shorts to be loose. However they were much too tight and very uncomfortable, especially around the waist. Bummer cause they seem nice otherwise!

Best cycling shorts ever!!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I ride mountain bikes and have lots of different types of shorts and pants. These are by far my favorite shorts. They are so comfy, never ride up or bunch up, and have plenty of cushioning. I also love the length, much more flattering than the traditional long women?s bike shorts. I am so glad I found these and have two pairs. I hope they keep making them forever! I normally wear a XS or Small, but ordered the Medium and they fit perfectly. Please order a size up! Backcountry has always been a great, reliable company to order from too.
