As a mid-tier cycling shoe, Pearl Izumi's Race Road IV Women's Shoe is an impressive option whether you're upgrading from your first pair of entry-level shoes or making the commitment to go clipless. The Race Road IV's sleek, streamlined design, seamless upper, and efficient BOA and hook-and-loop closure resemble shoes twice its price, and its sole is compatible with both standard three-bolt road cleats and two-bolt mountain cleats. Road, off-road, spin class — the Race Road IV can accommodate cleats for whatever pedal style you prefer.

Much of the Race Road IV's sleek, streamlined aesthetic comes from its 3D Seamless Print Upper, which is all-new for Pearl Izumi this year. The upper relies on a web of bonded seaming that gives the shoe far more flexibility than heavier seamed uppers while still maintaining a close, contoured shape overall. These types of uppers are far less likely to cause hot spots and pressure points, and their breathability helps prevent chafing and blisters from perspiring feet receiving no ventilation. The positioning of the BOA dial in the middle of the shoe allows you to tighten each side of the upper incrementally to ensure you get a fit that gives you responsive power transfer without numb toes.

On the underside of the shoe, Pearl constructs the forefoot with rigid, efficient carbon fiber, then uses a durable composite along the rest of the outsole, providing the promise of power transfer when you need it without a full-carbon-inflated price. Other touches like a soft Select Insole and an EVA foam and rubber heel bumper provide extra support and comfort during longer rides and when you're navigating the coffee shop line.

Perfect for the function

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

One purpose shoe in my case, spin shoes. Would I buy them again? Yes for spin class. Would I ride with them? Only in a pinch, weight plays a big factor. They are not super heavy but I like to have a set of high performance shoes for riding.

Great looking shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 40

I love the style of these!

Good High Volume Option

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

After trying on a few other options from different brands, my fiance chose these as they were great for a higher volume foot. With a higher arch, her foot is very tall and these work great! I think part of that is due to the Boa fit system allows for an almost custom fit.
They're not the stiffest or lightest option out there, but for the price, they are definitely a great option. I'd definitely recommend them for hard to fit feet.
