Not too long ago we wouldn't have that of a situation where we would need a thermal bib short, but after studying the riders in the spring classics, we discovered that a key piece of pro kit was indeed thermal bib shorts. Pearl Izumi's Men's PRO Escape Thermal Bib Shorts are perfect for long rides on cool days around 50- to 65-degrees Fahrenheit and if you happen to ride into wet weather conditions, the Thermal Fleece fabric with water-shedding PI Dry technology prevent the shorts from taking on water and keep you comfortable. You can also pair them with thermal knee or leg warmers or go full Euro-Pro and slather on embrocation for the ultimate versatility in cool weather. Keeping the upper comfortable and allowing the use of various baselayers to regulate temps in the PRO Transfer fabric. Raw edge construction on the bib straps and leg openings offer just the right amount of compression without restricting movement or digging into our skin. Since these bibs will likely accompany us on our long base mile rides, we are thankful that Pearl specs their highest-end PRO Escape 1:1 chamois and we find the floating top sheet design offers excellent comfort. Reflective elements on the sides and back help with visibility at night, in tunnels, and in the rain.
