Views await.

When the sun is shining and your chores list is as empty as it's looked in weeks, grab the Pearl Izumi Men's P.R.O. Escape Short and head out for a scenic spin along deserted roads. Designed for all-day, long ride functionality, the P.R.O. Escape arrives fully redesigned this year, borrowing features from pro-level kit to deliver the kind of comfort and fit that are key to enjoying full-day adventures.

Revisiting fabric and chamois construction, Pearl focused on breathability and a soft, but supportive fit with its redesigned P.R.O. Transfer fabric. A slimmer, stretchier chamois with a new floating top sheet, a feature formerly reserved only for top-tier race kit, significantly reduces the likelihood of chafing throughout your ride. This system moves with you far more easily than a fixed block of cushioning would as you stand in the saddle or get off your bike to take in mid-ride views. Features like raw-edge leg endings bring a clean, streamlined aesthetic to the short, and stay in place with subtle, but secure silicone printing.

  • Take in spectacular scenery and ride views in this short
  • Form-fitting cut supports your muscles during all-day rides
  • Redesigned chamois features floating top sheet for comfort
  • Raw-edge leg endings contribute to short's clean aesthetic
  • BioViz reflective accents keep you visible on dimly lit roads

Excellent quality and fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I have been using Pearl Izumi elite shorts for years and this is my first pro that I bought on sale recently. The short fits well and feels well even after 5hrs of riding. The padding is excellent and better than the elite version and it's thickness is just right.
I have used it since I bought it and it still looks new.

Very Comfortable Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

The shorts are very comfortable especially the chamois padding. They are true to size and don't ride up. It sure pays to use a better short.

Very comfortable from the get go. Fits like a glove and would highly recommend these bike shorts

Buying more

Having been burnt in the past by the need to constantly "redesign" I bought one pair to check fit and function. The fit was perfect for me, conforming with PI Large shorts purchased previously. I wouldn't say there is a lot of "compression" with these but I wasn't looking for any, nor did I need a pair of shorts that were a size smaller. These felt perfect the first time I pulled them on. Having ridden at least 25 miles every day for the last 45 days (thank you weather) I had a real interest in how well the chamois did its job. It does not make a great impression at first glance but the truth is in the ride. I had the new shorts out for 52 miles this morning and I'm buying two more pair while they are on sale. These are keepers.

I held back one star for the "new floating top sheet". It's probably a non-issue and just a matter of getting used to them but I need a few more rides to confirm that the feeling of its sneaking up between my butt cheeks (sorry for the visual) is just that they are different, not that there is that problem. I'll try to follow-up on that issue but overall I think these will be great long mileage shorts.

8/11/17 Edit - So here's my longer term take on floating top sheet: If it's below 60 I don't even think about. Once it gets warmer and I get into more of a sweat zone I can feel the need to pull these loose when I stand up to pedal. It's not something I feel with any other shorts, including other PI shorts. It's more of an annoyance than a structural flaw and I'm not sorry I bought them
