The way we see it, cyclists have two options in the cold, wet weather of late fall and early spring: stay in and have a drink or get out on the bike in the Pearl Izumi PRO Barrier WxB Shoe Covers. One option will help come spring. The other won't. To anyone who wants to be competitive in April, the choice is pretty clear.
The shoe covers' wind- and waterproof exterior and fleece lining are the bootie version of a light winter jacket. For heavier protection, we recommend the PRO Softshell version; however, we find that a pair of insulating socks take the PRO Barrier WxB covers well below Pearl Izumi's recommended low temperature of 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

I use this as my only shoe cover from October through March. (With toe covers for September and April.) I cam online looking for new winter booties and, as usual, eventually found myself looking at the ones I've owned for years now. Figured that means I should write a review for them.
For temps in the 30s, I just wear thick, warm socks to provide insulation; anything above that, and I wear my summer socks. That versatility keeps the kit drawer from getting overstuffed. I've also learned to value fluo accessories for visibility—not on the road, but while I'm digging through that (admittedly overstuffed) kit drawer early in the morning. Everything's black, and it doesn't help when I'm limited to the light from my phone screen so as not to wake my wife. The fluo stuff stands out. Easier to find amid the sea of black sameness. It's maybe not a big thing, but when you're working up the nerve to get out in 30 degrees on a weekend morning, any minor inconvenience can lead you back to the couch with another cup of coffee.

I use these when its wet or chilly. Fit is great and look is excellent. They make you feel fast. Closure system allows you to keep the top part (that contacts your achilles) a bit looser than the bottom (which wraps the shoe). I burned a hole in my pair during a crash a few weeks back. First thing I did when I got back home was to order a replacement pair.

Frankie Alston Pearl Izumi notes that this particular shoe cover is designed for 40° to 60°F.
Try the Elite Softshell Shoe Cover or PRO WxB with 100g of primaloft for more insulation but same great closure system and fit. Those are both designed for colder temps.
