P.R.O. Air Bib Short
Worrying about weight has become a cliché in cycling, but there are some days where every gram really does count. The PRO Air Bib Shorts are for those days. They’re Pearl Izumi’s lightest bibs, and they’re equipped with a suite of features—cooling French fabric, Pearl’s top chamois, and so-pro lie-flat bibs and leg cuffs—that leave no doubt about they’re intended use. And though Pearl intended them for multi-peak days and 100-mile races, we’ve taken to wearing them on any ride when they’re not in the wash.
- Pearl Izumi’s lightest performance road cycling bib shorts
- Built for days when every extra gram is a lost watt
- In-R-Cool coldblack material actively dumps heat
- Lie-flat cuffs and bibs reduce transitional ridges and bulk
- Includes the brands top racing chamois
- Reflective details help maintain visibility in low-light conditions

These are a very lightweight version of the PRO, and IMHO, too light, as the fabric at the top of the short in the front ripped right through the folded-over flap, ruining the bib. In fact, the seams are probably bonded because the material is too thin to sew. The chamois seems to be a bit smaller than the PRO as well, although its an EXCELLENT chamois pad. The best chamois in the World today. Really spectacular. I LOVED these bibs on hot days. Most of my rides are 50-70 miles in temps in the 90s and 100s, and the very high Lycra content (35% and 40% for the lowers and uppers respectively ~ twice that used in the PRO) kept the pad from wadding up when sweat-soaked, so although when saturated with sweat they seemed to relax a bit, they are really very cool on hot days. All that Lycra makes the short feel tight when you put it on, but it keeps the pad EXACTLY where it's needed. This is the one feature PI should bring to the PRO from the PRO Air. On the PRO the pad wants to wad up when it gets soaked with sweat. Not on this though. I hope PI will modify this bib by using the cloth from the PRO at the top-front of the short, below the strap engagement area, for durability. I'm also wondering how well all that Lycra would stand up to the kind of UV rays we have up here in the mountains, but think PI could fix what's wrong with this bib and have a spectacular product.

True to size and feel light on! Compression is good but I like the feel and compression of the PRO bibs a bit more. These will be great for those hot summer/fall rides. Same chamois feel in both shorts which in my opinion is great.

A very nice fit, except that the chamois should be an inch longer in back for when I sit up as I wanted to use these for summer dirt road rides. Would be okay on the drops.
