Strong marks.

A winter glove's main jobs are threefold: block the elements, manage internal moisture, and impede bar feel as little as possible. Pearl Izumi's Elite Softshell Gel Gloves score strong marks in all three categories, combining the brand's Elite Softshell material with 100g insulation and a relatively modest bulk. They're not as protective as full-on ski mittens, nor are they as minimalistic as Pearl's summer-weight Elite gloves; however, they do strike the ideal balance for the days when bright winter afternoons let you detach the bike from the trainer and get outside for some base miles.

Elite Softshell fabric is the gloves' main active ingredient, and Pearl engineered it to ward off wind and water from the outside while allowing breathability to keep your hands dry on the inside. The softshell is backed up with 100g of Primaloft Gold insulation, and the inner face is finished with a soft fleece liner. The palms are also lightly padded, which alleviates pressure points during long base miles spent on the hoods.

Pearl's 1:1 Glove Fit and conductive synthetic tips on the thumb and index finger help ensure that your reach on the bars is less restricted and you can still scroll through touch screen menus without expose your delicate digits to the wintery air. After all, once your hands get chilled on a bike ride, the only way to warm them up is to stop.

  • Winter cycling gloves for damp, cold base miles
  • Wind- and water-resistant softshell
  • Primaloft insulation and fleece lining add warmth
  • Targeted fit minimizes bulk to maintain bar feel
  • Compatible with touchscreen devices
  • Fleece wiping surface contrasts with less forgiving softshell
  • Reflective elements and extended cuffs combat the dark chill of winter

Not warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Wore on a 45 degree day and my fingers were really cold. $15 gloves from Costco are MUCH WARMER. buy those and wear finger-less underneath for padding. Also sizing stinks. Large are too small XL are too big. Disappointed with pearl iszumi on these!

Not Warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Just not very warm. In 40F temps I come home with cold hands. Even though supposedly XXL, the thumbs are short, so thumbs get cold. No wind or water resistance. Would not recommend for serious cold riding, or any other kind of riding, come to think of it. Maybe OK for shoveling snow, but the price is awful high for driveway gloves. Glad they were at discount.

Great cold weather gloves!

  • Size Bought: XXL

Had no issues with cold or grip down to 19*F for over 2hrs. Awesome gloves.

Awesome Gloves!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

Ideal for cold weather, low 30s. They will keep you warm during long rides.

Great gloves.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I rode a Strava Fondo Monday 10/16/17 it was 29* outside. I never felt a bit of cold or chill. The warmest gloves I've ever had.
