Elite Escape AmFIB Tight
Winter cycling can be punishing enough without the added (and quite literal) pain in the ass of riding in tights with a sub-standard chamois. The Pearl Izumi Elite Escape AmFIB Men's Tight saves you that trouble, letting you layer your favorite summer bibs beneath its insulated wind- and water-resistant protection. The result is your own private summer, anywhere you go. In that event the effort ramps up, the sun comes up, or you just work up a sweat, the breathable material expels moisture, reducing the risk of a few miles spent pedaling in anger leaving you with a clammy chill for the rest of the ride.
- Cross-training tights for cold, damp conditions
- Lead into the wind with weather-resistant softshell
- Water-resistant thermal panels keep road spray out
- Lightly brushed thermal material maintains warmth
- Chamois-free construction lets you dictate your support
- Pull 'em on and off easily with ankle zips
- Reflective details catch eyes in low-light conditions
- Thigh pocket secures your key so you're not locked out in the cold

DO THESE HAVE A ZIPPER ON THE LEGS?

OK, could be designed better
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Fit:
- Runs small
It works, runs small. I like the improved material, but the it could be designed better. Gets more uncomfortable after 4 hours in the saddle vs Gore or Craft which get more comfortable over time on longer rides. The zippers at the bottom of the legs are too short to easily put on over 2 layers of socks. The knee could use better flexibility Too tight to wear with a base layer (when riding under 26 degrees F).

Great super cold weather tights!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit:
- True to size
- Size Bought
- XXL
- Height
- 5` 10"
- Weight
- 185 lbs
Me. 5'10". 185lbs. 36" waist. Got the XXL. Fit perfectly. I like them slightly less than super snug. Although, these are pretty form fitting. Used them the past 2 days in 15 degrees fht. with wicked strong winds for 1 1/2 hr. rides. I was plenty warm in all areas. It was dry on the road, but these look pretty water resistant. (I'll review again after a wet ride.) Used them with suspenders and my own bib shorts. There is no extra waist band material to bind or constrict. Excellent!!!

Only had an opportunity to use these a few times this past winter but loved them. Super warm, and the material did an excellent job of blocking the wind. Used them mostly for MTB since I prefer the slower pace during the cold weather, but even on a high 20* day, they were perfect.

Cold weather active favorite
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I've had these for several years, and have used for road cycling and occasional off-road cycling. The Amphib material is soft, somewhat stretchy, though not as much so as the stretch fleece used to make the back of the tight. The Amphib stuff is also water-resistant, and dramatically wind-blocking, and the combination is near-perfect for a road tight: the warm fleece in back also lets moisture escape, while the Amphib front tames the wind chill of riding in the cold. The back doesn't fend off spray, but most times will stay warm despite getting damp. Snow and rain (well, at least light rain; I tend to pull of it's coming down in buckets) just bounce off the Amphib. Nice. Fit. I'm 6'1, 200 lb more or less, 32" inseam, 36" waist. A size Large fits me well - snug, but with room for a padded short beneath. Just what I want for cool-weather riding. They've held up well for about 10 years and several crashes. A hint: use the waist drawcord; the Amphib fabric has a tendency to pull down the waist of the tights. Otherwise these my favorite cold-weather bottoms (anything below 50 degrees). If I still ran trails or XC skied I'd use the Amphibs even more. One of those garments that just works.. The pic shows me wearing the Amphib tights for riding the mountain bike, November in New Mexico.

Great Windstopper
I wore these with PI Elite Escape Bib shorts underneath. Temps in upper 30's. The only time I thought about my legs was when they started getting tired on my 1 hr road bike road. Although it wasn't windy, I didn't notice any cold air on my downhills. I'm 5'7, 180 lbs. sz M. They were snug but fit like they should. I like the ankle zipper with zipper garage. Fleece lined inside and soft. I thought I might experience some discomfort on the back of my knee due to possible gathering of extra material there which didn't occur on my ride. The version of this with Chamois is an extra $14.
