Professional piece of mind.

Chains are the lifeblood of your drivetrain. Without one, you have nothing more than a glorified hobby horse. And when they break, it's typically due to sloppy installation. When a professional mechanic installs a chain, it's with a precision unit like this Park Tool CT 4.3 Master Chain Tool for a reason.

Field service and home mechanic tools work great in a pinch, but if you want to avoid the pinch altogether, the only way to go is professional grade. Aside from the obviously ergonomic handle, the CT 4.3 works with the tight tolerances of modern, narrow chains due to its investment-cast, precisely machined body.

This ensures that the tool's pin is guided straight, and that it doesn't wander while installing the chain pin. Otherwise, wallowing of the bore, binding inside, or bending of the plates will happen. Additionally, the pin is easily replaced if it happens to bend. Another defining feature of the Master Chain Tool is an integrated link pocket for precise alignment during use.

The Park Tool Master CT-4.3 Chain Tool is compatible with Campagnolo chains, and includes an anvil to peen their 11-speed chains. It will work with all 5- through 11-speed chains from Shimano and SRAM, as well. Please note that the only chain that it's not compatible with is Wipperman.

  • A precision tool for mechanic-grade chain repairs
  • Ergonomic handle is comfortable for hours of wrenching
  • Precisely machined body works with narrow modern chains
  • Pin is easy to replace in the event that it bends
  • Integrated link pocket for precise alignment
  • Compatible with Campagnolo, Shimano, and SRAM chains
  • Not compatible with Wipperman chains

Chain pin broke immediately

Luckily the tool has a replaceable chain pin, however it broke immedately on the first chain install, really really sucks, bought this because it can "peen" campag chains.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Used this tool 3 times before the chain pin just snapped off. Response from Park Tool was basically that is to be expected and so they sell replacement pins in a 4-pack. They wouldn't even send me a cheap pin replacement. Never again.

Does this tool work with Campagnolo 12 speed chains?

They say it does but thats how it broke the pin and damaged my Campy 12 chain. You need to buy the 200$ campy chain tool. It is incredible and a necessary cost.

    Needed to replace chain

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I needed to replace my Shimano 11 spd chain. This tool worked great.
Hopefully won't need it very often but assured when I do it works great.

    Broken Pin on Delivery!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

So, I have a broken chain and ordered from Backcounty with free 2 day shipping. Perfect for getting the bike back together for a weekend ride. The tool showed up and the pin was broken. I called customer service to ask them to send me a replacement pin and the guy siad NO. They can only send a new tool. This is ridiculous and the agent said they don't have replacement pins. That's funny, because I looked it up on the Backcountry store and they do sell the pins and they are in stock.

This is ridiculous. I now have to wait another week to get a replacement tool which is unecessary.

I'm sure the tool is high qulity, but a new item in the box should not be damaged. I would not expect Backcountry to open boxes and inspect parts, so I definitely blae Park Tool for not having better quality control over new products. Maybe it should be packaged better in the box to prvent this from happening. But, then again, the pin was installed and recessed in the tool, so it seems like the pin was faulty from manufacturering in the first place.

Backcountry failed me on this! And this review is really for their crappy service along with Park Tool poor qulity control of product.

I bought replacement pins from another seller and now I have another $15.00 invested in this tool, which makes the price point unreaonable. I spend thousands of dollars every year with Backcountry. I also own a home shop full of Park Tools. Looks like it is time to spend my money elsewhere!

    Buy it!

Come on guys, if you own a $3-10K high-end road (or MTB) bike with an 11 speed chain, spend only ~$20-30 more than a decent/inferior chain tool and purchase Park's CT-4.3 master chain tool.

Park's CT-4.3 is designed in a different and superior way than other chain tools (even Park's 3.2). It holds the chain *inside* the block; much more secure. Thus, the chain rivet is driven-in in a more precise and accurate way. Therefore, fewer bent, stuck, or stiff links (so frustrating!).

Buy this chain tool and Park's $10 chain checker (3.2), and change your chain --easily-- and as needed. (About every 1,500-3,000 miles depending upon conditions.)

      Park Tools

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great for any home mechanic looking to build a good tool set for working on their bikes.

      Not your average tool

The large handles make this tool the one to get. The additional leverage this tool affords you makes removing and setting pins real easy.
