Great tool for 11&12 speed chains

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great tool to check 11 and 12 speed chains. This is much better and more accurate than the old version

Park Tool Chain Checker

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Well,....it is a chain checker.. Like all Park Tools it is well made and works great.
I would recommend it to everybody.

Easy to use

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This tool can save you so much money. If you ride with a stretched chain for too long it will destroy your drivetrain, but if you keep checking with this tool you will know when to replace. Very easy to use and provides an accurate reading

Research Alternatives

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'd recommend either the Shimano TL-CN42 or maybe Pedro's Chain Checker Plus over this Park Tool item as recommended in the link below. Pins can also be bent fairly easily when handed over to a ham fisted friend... I like how it enables you to determine the level of wear you are comfortable with; some like to replace at 0.5%, others will push to 0.75%. This is a cool feature over the go/no-go styles.

Works great for making sure your chain isn't stretched out too much. A little steep on the price but a good tool to have.

Cheap & Easy To Use

I got caught having to replace both my chain and cassette a few weeks ago and won't let that happen again with this handy tool. It's cheap and easy to use. Make sure to initially check your chain as a baseline and to build familiarity with the checker.

    Must own

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

way cheaper than guessing. We use this tool in here in the Backcountry.com Retail Bike Shop in salt lake city.

    Cheaper than a new cassette

If you've ever made the mistake of running your chain too long, and needing to replace your cassette as a result, then spending less than $30 on a chain checker is money well spent. Just need to remember to check your your chain regularly.

Checked a new chain against an old one with this.
Dead on accurate. A bit OCD to own but worth it.
