700 x 43, how it measures

Haven't had a chance to really put some miles on them, but was worried about how they measured.



the 700x43 measures:

40.9mm wide at 60psi (max to seal them up)

41.9mm at 40psi (what I plan to ride)

Mounted on Mercury M1 rims (20mm) inner diameter, tubeless.



2 layers of Stans tape. With a compressor, getting the bead to settle in was easier than my other bikes, but too snug to set up with a floor pump.



On a Niner RLT Steel, there is plenty of clearance in the front and back.







Solid Option

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you are looking for a solid all-round tire, this is your best choice. Does not have the best tread and is not the lightest, but it will won't let you down. On my second set and I would have a hard time looking at other options when it comes to my third set.



Beware that they are a challenge to set up tubless. I'd recommend putting tubes in them for 1-2 weeks to get the 'folds/creases' out of the bead before adding any sealant.

Solid Option

Hello, will these tires ( 700c x 35mm) fit my Trek Domane SL6 Disc (2019) with Hunt 4 Season Gravel Disc wheels?

Hi Francesco, on Trek's website they recommend a max tire size of 32mm for the Domane SL6 Disc frame.

Francesco, did these work out on your domane?? I am buying them and also setting them up a domane sl8 disc. Trek says “have to say only 32 because of...blah blah blah but other sites say up to 38 but I don’t believe that. So I bought 35. Did they work??

I, too, have a Domane Disc with the Trek-approved max width 32mm. I'm running Zipp 30 Course rims with 21mm internal width.

terrific gravel tire.

Originally bought as a commuter tire, I found the 700x43 version excellent on mixed terrain and in mixed weather. I have faster rolling tires for those warm summer days. But for anything less than perfect asphalt on a warm day. The Gravelking had traction to spare. Casing is at the durable end of medium toughness.

For a tire with this much tread, it is fairly fast rolling!

Sidewall tear and easily punctured

I have only put about 400 miles on these and in the same week had a sidewall tear and another puncture that just wouldn't seal up. Not sure if this was coincidence but I am not very confident in their durability. Moving to another brand.

Got a set of GravelKing SK, 77x43 For my all weather commuter/bikepacker. Mounted on my Soma Wolverine.

Panaracer excels at making fast rolling, fluffy tires that ride like a dream. this tire rolls more along the lines of a medium quality 35c. Which is terrific for a tire with this much dampening. everything short of mud and boulders can be handled by this tire.

Not a mountain bike tire. but as close as you can get to one without suffering serious issues with rolling resistance.

For commuters, Tourers, moderate Dirt Tourers. bad weather riding. This tire is as close as they come to a jack of all trades!

will the 700Cx32's fit on a 2019 Fuji Gran Fondo 1 disc?

Hey Pat, most likely a 32mm will not fit that bike, especially with a wider aftermarket wheel. The frame is pretty close tolerance wise with the factory 30mm tires it comes with.

A great gravel tire

I love these tires. great grip on loose gravel but also smooth on the roads. I have the wider tire and they are a very comfortable ride (35PSI). They seem to be very durable so far. I would take these tires anywhere.

Solid through the DK100

Just back from DK100 2018 riding the 38s on Stan's wheels tubeless at about 30lbs and these rode perfectly with no flats. A friend with well know tube gravel tire flatted twice in first 10 miles ! I had solid grip in all conditions including tricky climbs where others spun out. We had a significant mud section where only those with huge clearance could ride as the mud stuck to everything, these tires included. But the mud "self cleaned" on gravel downhill. The tread seemed fine on everything. Cleaned them up once home and they look brand new.

I also was at DK2018. Rode the GK 43 mm on my Moots Routt 45. No flat and no issues with the tires. Held pressure well. Used Stans race sealant on Zipp 30 course wheels. No issues in climbs or descents. I saw plenty of racers with flats on the course.

Tires were nice when they held air. Fairly grippy and rolled quick. On the second ride out, sliced the rear tire and had to boot with a gel wrapper and use an inner tube.

Great tire for gravel, hardpack and road

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great do-all tire that doesn't stray too far from the middle. When aired down to 30-40 psi the tires are awesome on hardpack/gravel. Put in 70 psi and they are a solid tire to cruise on the road. Say away from mud and this tire excels in its versatility.
Beware tire volume between brands. I swapped out a 28c Continental Grand Prix for the 32c Gravel King and the volume (circumference of the tire) was almost identical when comparing the two.
Tip for mounting: make sure the bead of the tire is in center groove of the rim, this will allow a little extra give to pull the last bit of the bead over the lip without the need of a tire lever, but it's gonna be tough on the fingers.

JUST ENOUGH GRIP!

I ride my santa cruz stigmata as an all road bike! CX trails, gravel roads, and the tarmac on the way! these tires have performed on all the above surfaces! no punctures or burbs yet after a year of use!

Hi David- I have a Stiggy too. Which size GK's are you running? I've heard they run a bit big, and want to make sure the 38's will fit in my Stiggy. Thanks!

Nice tires, hard to mount

Everyone kept telling me that tubeless is the way to go and I finally decided to try it out. I'd read good things about the gravel king SK tires and have had great luck with Panaracer road tires so the gravel kings seemed to be the logical choice.
As usual Competitive Cyclist service is great and the tires arrived in a few days. I set out to mount them on my Stans Ironcross wheels. These rims can be difficult to mount some tires, In fact, I had a pair of Challenge Strada Bianche's that neither I or the LBS could mount on these wheels. Judging by the bead on the gravel kings I knew I was in for a wrestling match. I could not get the tire on the Stans rim even with a little soapy water for lubrication and a tire jack. After a bit of thought and being too stubborn to admit defeat, I mounted them with a tube on some Velocity A23 rims and inflated the tires to 70 psi and left them for a couple of days. After this I was able to mount them on the Stans rims, it was not easy and still required a tire jack for the last bit of the second bead. Once on the rim the tires were a breeze to inflate- only needed a track pump to inflate and dry seat on the bead. Add a bit of sealant and you're good to go! They hold air well for days at a time.
Running the tires at 30 psi front and 35-40 psi rear they roll really well and are pretty surefooted in loose gravel. I got the 38s which actually measure 40-41 mm when mounted on the Stans rims. Too soon to know about wear, but the ride is really nice. Overall, I'm quite happy with the purchase. My advice to those that buy is have a tire jack handy or go to your LBS with a sad look on your face and maybe they'll take pity on you and mount them for free or a minimal fee.

I never have issues mounting any tubeless. These were actually pretty simple compared to some road tubeless. Always start opposite the valve, ensure the 1st side is in the center of the wheel and not riding on the valve. Apply dish soap to the last section that becomes difficult. IF it will not mount with some effort then heat the tire with a hair dryer on high for @ 5 min. Re-apply dish soap, clean your hands for a good grip and slip that bad boy on and pump it up! I've mounted tires shops could not this way and I've mounted tires I've seen people snap tire levers on... They are supposed to be a tight fit! Good luck #goneroadtubelessneverlookingback

Is 32c size tubeless compatible? Panaracer's website does not list 32 in the tubeless section.

Sane question re the 35s? If they're tubeless, this is the first I've heard of it...

Great Gravel Tire

    These tires were built to be a long lasting gravel tire that can do double duty on the pavement and that's exactly what they do. The center tread feels great rolling over gravel as well as chip seal and pavement, with less vibration than even Schwalbe's G-One tire. Where I've really noticed this tire shine is how the block tread on the sides helps hold on in loose corners. Like another reviewer said, they're not great if you're just doing mostly pavement with some mixed gravel, but that's not what these tires were made for. The brown sidewalls are also a nice touch. They give my bike a real classy look.

    I got these for multiple day on and off road touring trips. I've only been able to get out on them for a couple light rides so far, (Will update after first big ride) But the grip is more than impressive, and the squish feels really nice under a well seasoned steel touring pig.

    Light, Long Wearing Goodness

    I have been running these 700x35 tires, tubeless, on my Cielo Base racer, mounted to a set of Roval Control SL wheels with a 22mm inner width. I ran them for a good portion of the season and did Rebecca's private Idaho on them. I have been super impressed with the wear life, and the speedy feel on gravel. They are not ideal for pavement but I found them to be very reliable and efficient for off road segments. I mounted them up with a floor pump and have ridden them in the dry and in some mud, however mud performance was abysmal. They aren't meant for mud anyway, but I thought I would throw that out there. They weigh in at around 384g per tire which is quite respectable in this category. I would buy them again happily, unless I was doing mostly road rides with a little dirt mixed in, I would probably just go with the standard gravel king for that.

    Great Gravel Tire for Dry Conditions

    Really like these. I run these between 35 - 40 PSI and they work great. Not for wet or muddy conditions but they sell a separate model for those conditions. They roll well and have a nice substantial side wall.

    Tough and Fast and Controlled

    I did a 100k gravel race last weekend, Cedar City Fire Road 100k. It was climb climb climb/ smooth smooth/ descend descend descend. These tires performed very well.



    The climb were very steep and the descents very fast and rocky. I ran the 40mm tires and at about 35psi; I weigh 148lbs, I will run them at 30 psi next time. With the wide tire and low pressure, I was able to get out of the saddle and climb and still have traction and had tons of bump dampening and control on the descents.



    I installed these tires before the race, because I was getting too many flats on another tire I ran for DK200. This race was super rough and I had no flats with these tires! I know you will love these tires and the look good. I got 3rd in the race

    Tough and Fast and Controlled

    Congrats and thank you for the review!! Any familiarity with the Teravail Cannonball (either width) and if so do you have any comparison/feedback? Based on a lot of positive feedback about ride quality, traction and puncture protection for the Cannonball and the Panaracer GravelKing SK tires I am looking at both in 38 width. Price on these is cheaper. I may ultimately buy both and run on different bikes but I am still soliciting feedback.

    Honestly, I have never used any Teravail tires. I heard similarly good things, maybe a slight increase in quality over the Panaracers. This is purely opinion and you will be happy with either.
