Description

Custom-fit suspension systems are Osprey's bread and butter, so it makes sense that the Hydraulics Hydration Reservoir is shaped with a rigid backer plate to prevent any interference with how your pack fits and carries. Additionally, the durable TPU reservoir material keeps water tasting exactly the way it should, and the bite valve keeps the hose secure when you're cruising up the trail.

  • BPA- and phthalate-free material
  • HydroStatic backer plate
  • Bite valve
  • Hose shut-off valve

Well Designed Hydration Reservoir

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This advance design definitely improves the stability of the reservoir in the pack. Refinements such as the magnet connector and the quick release make operation so much easier. The new top flap opening is a better location and more efficient use of space, but the opening seems a little smaller than I expected. Super Osprey quality as usual. Bought two!

Thank you for the review, Beatriz. Enjoy your reservoirs!!

Happy Trails,

Easy to use, slow flow

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Very easy to fill up and attach to my Osprey pack. The magnetic piece kept the hose and bite valve from dangling around (though mostly forced it into my elbow). I still have to figure out what is the best way to secure the bite value while hiking. The one drawback is that the bite valve noticeably restricted the flow of water, making it difficult to drink. Instead of being able to take a couple quick gulps, it was more like several small sips.

Nathan, thank you for the feedback! I will pass it on to Osprey!

Drink more water, Live better

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Recently picked up one of these for a backpacking trip. I hadn't used a reservoir in a while and had become so accustomed to just using water bottles. I had forgotten how much easier it is to stay hydrated while hiking when you can just suck on a straw that is conveniently placed in the center of your chest. I found myself drinking way more water on our all day trek to our camp. Do yourself a favor, leave the bottles at home, get yourself a reservoir and stay hydrated!

Thank you so much, Jacob!

Solid Reservoir

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Osprey makes filling up your reservoir even more streamlined by adding a quick release button on the hose so you can quickly disconnect the reservoir for filling and cleaning. The slide closure is also super solid and have never had any issues leaking. Magnet on the hose also makes it easy to secure hose while riding or hiking.

Charlie, I LOVE the quick release feature! Glad you love your reservoir!

Love this thing!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This reservoir is one of my favorite pieces of gear, it's super easy to use and has so many great features. I love that I can detach the hose from the bag, this makes refilling the reservoir quick and easy. The carry handle also helps a lot when filling the bag up in a sink. Overall I would purchase this product again and again!!

Thank you Casey!

Stay hydrated

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the best hydration system I have ever used. The quick release hose system makes filling the reservoir simple and convenient, no need to put your entire pack under the water source. The bite valve is also great, never worry about getting dripped on again.

So great i bought 2!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Such a well put together bladder, i love it! I love the multiple point connections that allow you to easily remove and refill the bladder without having to rewire the hose through your bag. I love the plastic back that makes it super easy to pull it in and out of your bag. Very high quality made and put together. This should last me years. I bought second for my girlfriend.

Great Reservoirs

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When it came time to replace some old bladders I went with the Osprey. They make the best hydration bladders today. They are in all of my bags.

New Favorite Reservoir

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I recently bought a new reservoir after having a Camelbak for years. There are a few things that I specifically appreciate about it. I like that the tube disconnects from the reservoir so you can easily remove just the reservoir to clean or fill it. It's also great that you can open the top to fill and clean it. It makes it very easy to clean/dry. It is also easy to close.

Best Hydration Reservoir

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love the magnetic connector on the bite valve. It makes it easy to drink while bike riding. Its also an incredibly easy reservoir to clean. Make sure you get an osprey cleaning kit too. It makes cleaning even easier and you can use the brush to wash your water bottles too. http://bit.ly/2oRRyYY

Awesome Reservoir

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The Osprey hydration reservoir is an essential to me when I am out there backpacking. It's a great hydration reservoir to use with just about any pack, but especially great paired with an Osprey pack! I toss it in the back of my Aether AG 60 and off I go. I have it in the 3L because I like to do a lot of weekend/overnight trips with it. It can get a little bit heavy when full. However, if you are trying to travel with as little weight as possible I would probably look into the Osprey LT Hydration Reservoir. Overall, awesome hydration reservoir and it does the trick for always keeping a few liters of fresh water right on hand for you for those multi-day trips.

Are you supposed to be able to refill this through the detachable hose, or is that simply to keep your hose in your backpack while you take the reservoir out to refill?

Abigail, I am sorry for my delayed response! You can leave the hose in your pack and remove the reservoir to fill it - Easy!!

Hope that helps,

Leta

Drinking Water in the Mountains

Drinking Water in the Mountains: Hydration Systems

So being a hydration bladder guy, I have owned quite a few hydration systems. on a recent backpacking trip and I brought out all the ones I own and tested them up against one another.
So let go through the candidates…
the one I have owned the longest is the
Platypus Big Zip 2.0 Liter
The Platypus is a good system, but it falls short from being perfect.
I had to add Bite Valve Cover, the Ergo Hydrolock & Quick link conversion kit.

PROS:
Like the large opening at the top
The quick connect to the bladder
All my mods

CONS:
You have to close the top manually before attaching blue lock or it will leak
Bite valve leaks even with the cover
I give it 3 out of 5 stars

Vapur 1.5 Liter DrinkLink Hydration System
The Vapur is a good system and I use it to drink Gatorade mix in water, it's great at that but it still has it's weak spots.

PROS:
The tube system is perfect
Bite valve has a on & off that is a push pull system
The connection to the bag is a quick connect
You can switch out the hose with the super cap and use it as a giant water bottle
Collapses very small

CONS:
All quick connections disconnects easily, sometimes with out pushing the release buttons
When being used as a hydration bladder there isn't a way to prevent it from falling down the hydration sleeve/pocket
Not as easy to fill as the others systems

Best Use:
As extra water storage at camp or on the move
I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

The Osprey is pretty close to perfection. It has a huge opening for filling
Quick connection and a on and off in the bite valve.
PROS:
Very light
Has a carry handle
Big easy opening & Once closed it stays closed

CONS:
The off and on of the bite valve turns, I prefer the push pull of the Vapur
Should have come with the Bite valve cover
This one ranks the highest 4 out of 5 starts
So my choice of hydration system is The Osprey

Simple

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got this in 3 liter and it is compatible with my Osprey Aether 85. Simple to use both filling from a faucet as well as purifying from a stream. the detachable hose makes hauling it out of the pack easier.

Hydrated

I needed a bladder for my Escapist 18 and the 3L fits/works perfectly! I like the detachable hose for seamless refills, etc.. and have found it very easy to clean. The slider is a great idea and easier to fill up than my older capped bladder.

Thanks for the great review, Joe!

    Love the big mount

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love the big mouth opening on this bag. It makes it very easy to fill with ice and especially to clean. Open it up and scrub it out. Highly recommended.

    Thank you Marc!

    Dries out entirely!

After spending some time with this bladder, I'm finding the best feature to be how it dries out entirely when hanging upside down. The same cannot be said for the competitor.

      Hey Emma,

You know, I never thought of it until you and I spoke the other day, but you are so right on with this. The texture of the reservoir makes it dry so much more quickly. No slime! Thanks for the review!

      need extra water?

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I really like mine, the top is a little bit different, but still works great, and makes it easy to put ice into the water to keep my water nice and cold during my rides.
