Ghost XCM 2 Cycling Shoe

For the fastest races, we need a stiff sole to transfer power to the pedals and a close-fitting upper for comfort lap after lap. Northwave improves upon their cross-country favorite the Ghost XCM with the XCM 2, with a more supple upper and redesigned dials. The Carbon XC 12 sole provides a powerfully stiff platform to power through the straightaways, while the rubber outsole provides grip on slick roots if you get jostled off the good line.

Northwave again uses their XFrame 2 upper construction for a wraparound fit without pressure points, paired with the perforated upper for better breathability. The cherry on top is the pair of SLW3 dials, which hone in the fit in micro-adjusts and can be entirely released when it's time to jettison the race footwear.
  • A stiff-soled shoe for xc and cross racing
  • Carbon XC 12 sole for efficient power transfer
  • Rubber tread provides grip on slick roots and rocks
  • Xframe 2 upper for a wraparound fit

Nice shoe, but flexes

I returned this product before using it

I liked this shoe, and I almost bought it. The reasons I didn't buy it were because I read the durability problems in the other review and the sole had some flex to it. The other carbon shoe shoes like the Lakes and the Scott Vertecs I tried on had literally 0 flex. Now, it wasn't a crazy amount of flex, but I am used to very hard sole road shoes and was worried I'd start feeling the flex on a long day. The uppers are a really nice material and seemed more durable than most of the other MTB shoes I tried on. The fit is really good, if anything a tiny bit towards the big side, but I liked that and think they would have been comfortable, yet tight enough for good pedal engagement. I prefer the normal boa loosening mechanism over this one, but that is a small point. I ended up going with a Scott Vertec, but I still think this is a really good option. One shoe weighs 356g in size 43.

Nice Design But Sole Lacks Durability

I've put it through the wringer

I bought these shoes after my Sidis finally died. They lasted five seasons and I would have purchased another pair but I wanted an XC shoe with grippier soles. The XCM2 fit the bill. This shoe runs narrow so I wouldn't recommend this model for wider feet. The upper of these shoes is bombproof. I have 1400 miles in on them and the material is still like new. The proprietary buckles worried me at first but they work just as well as Boa's and can be easily adjusted (tighter or looser) on the fly, which is a nice touch. Everything on this shoe works except the soles. All the the rubber "honey colored" bits, of the sole are torn and in various stages of falling off. I know MTB is hard on shoes, but I would hope that the soles would last more than a season. Especially on a shoe at this price point.
