Snappy gravel.

Eschewing national sanctioning bodies for miles upon miles of desolate gravel roads and embracing self-supported autonomy doesn't mean you have to give up your roadie-inspired love of speedy carbon. Niner's new addition to its Road Less Traveled lineup, the 2017 RLT 9 RDO 3-Star Rival Complete Bike, lets you have it all with lightweight carbon construction, comfortable positioning, and a snappy rear triangle that dances through turns.

As expected from an RLT, this bike is a bit slacker, longer, and lower than its 'cross racing cousin, Niner's BSB 9, but also sees a few tweaks compared to its aluminum and steel RLT siblings that boost its snappy profile. Shorter stays tighten up the rear triangle and work in tandem with a lower bottom bracket for a ride that's confidently responsive.

This combination lends the RLT 9 more stability and comfort over rough roads while still maintaining the agility to rocket out of turns. The dropouts have integrated rack and fender mounts, which only add to your setup options, and the replaceable hanger means that even if a catastrophic derailleur-related incident ends your ride, your RLT will live to roll another day.

Niner uses its Race Day Optimized (RDO) Carbon Compaction System to mold this RLT's frame, fine tuning the placement of carbon and eliminating any material that doesn't contribute to the frame's structural soundness and ride quality. To further enhance the smooth ride, the RLT has a 27.2mm seatpost, which adds an element of give to absorb bumps and chatter so you won’t be getting beat up as much as you’d expect, especially on washboard roads.

  • Niner's gravel bike gets upgraded to carbon
  • Endurance geometry blends comfort and responsiveness
  • RDO carbon construction balances weight and stiffness
  • Thru-axles increase stiffness for a snappy ride
  • Rack mounts on stays and fork for bikepacking adventures
  • SRAM's workhorse Rival drivetrain delivers confident gear shifts
  • Stan's NoTubes rims provide unbeatable tubeless reliability

My new fave.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

A really nice, light, comfortable bike. As a 5 ft nothin’ female it can be hard to find a bike small enough that it doesn’t require some type of compromise - usually reach or stand over, but the 47cm Niner RDO delivers. I threw on a Tubus rack and some stylin’ Woody’s fenders to make my Niner my new favorite, go-to, do everything/commute/gravel/cyclocross race bike.
