Replacement lid with spigot

I bought one of the MSR heavy duty bags. The valves were hard to control without making a mess. This is much neater.

    Overnight leakage...Depends

Full disclosure: I threaded some cord through the end cap so maybe my leak is my fault.

I don't think so though, the cord was always dry.

I think it seeps bit where the opaque plastic of the tap meets the black plastic. The Dromlite definitely doesn't leak with the original cap.

And seriously, it's not as though the cap is hemorrhaging massive gluts of water, that piddling amount visible on the tree is all that leaked from 9pm-7:30am - totally worth it for the convenience of the MSR Spigot Cap.

    Buy this, buy it NOW!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Okay, I want to give the MSR Spigot Cap five stars because I love it like a fat kid loves cake. It's not quite perfect though...

So, let's get the negative points out of the way and then we'll talk about why you need to buy it anyway.

It leaks. Just a little, not a lottle.

I tested the MSR Dromlite pretty thoroughly and I'm certain that the bag itself doesn't leak but the Spigot Cap loses a bit of water over time. I'll post a picture, the amount of water leaked overnight is minimal. I'm only using the Dromlite as a camp water solution but if you also need to use it as a water-hauler, you'd need to bring the original cap along as well.

Consult the product photo. See the end cap? See the wee little plastic bit that secures the end cap? NOT VERY SECURE.

In fact, that bit of plastic arrived broken. I took a hot needle to the end of the cap and threaded some cord through it. I even went all 4th-grade girl on it - my cap cord looks like a friendship bracelet, you know you're jealous.

Yeah, yeah, I know, I complained of leaks and then admitted I put a hole in it. *shifty eyes* I don't think that's the source of the leak, the cord was dry. I think it seeps where the black plastic gives way to the opaque plastic.

Whatever, back to the awesome with awesomesauce that is the MSR Spigot Cap. The 3-way cap that comes with the Dromlite is totally inferior, there's no Goldilocks moment where you realize one of the 3 spouts is "just right," they all suck. Just put the original cap in your spare gear box and ignore it. Forever.

The tap is easily operated with one hand and you can vary the strength of the stream of water a little bit. You can fill a nalgene or a cook pot pretty damned fast and without losing any of the water you worked so hard to pump/treat.

Go ahead and buy the Dromlite/Dromedary and the MSR Spigot cap at the same time. Maybe you can score some free shipping. I thought it was extravagant so I bought the Dromlite, fiddled with the 3-way cap for maybe 5 minutes, and then cursed myself for not just getting the cap I knew I wanted to begin with. Learn from my mistake! :)

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These spigots are way more convenient than the original caps that come with the bag. The water can be adjusted perfectly for flow and aimed exactly where you want it to go. Once you buy this item, you will be spoiled, and never go back. It also does not leak, and I have never had a problem with it.

    I highly recommend this accessory.

What is the diameter of the Spigot Cap?

What is the diameter of the Spigot Cap?

    Hey Elizabeth,

It's 63mm (and I just measured mine to double check). As a reference, it's the same diameter as, and will thread right on to, a large-mouth Nalgene bottle.

    You need it

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

You need this spigot! It makes the droms more functional. The cap it comes with is ok depending on the situation, but if you want to use it as a base camp water source to fill everything up you need this cap!

Essential in the back country. You can set up a water station which makes it super easy to fill up your water bottle of any size. You could even get a little crazy and just attach this to your Drome bag and drink right from it. Taking "slapping the bag" to a whole new level!

    nice attachment

you know you're going to pay a little more for msr. $10 bucks for a plastic spigot? come on. it works great though and never leaks.

    Makes the droms more useful

Using this cap with my 10L Droms makes them a lot more useful as camp spigots, water fill stations, and hand washers. These should be standard equipment with the droms but they won't break the bank.

this thing is awesome. much faster than the 3 in 1. we have two, one for each dromlite bag. works great for larger groups, we usually have around ten or so in our group so being speedy at the spigot is a must.

        Essential for the Drom

This is alot more convenient then the 3 in 1 cap. I was able to put a camelbak quick disconnect around the end of the spigot for an easy hydration hose. It must be a QD fitting, the regular hose will not work without modification. If you have a double ended QD it can also work as a shower tube. Just disconnect the bite valve and use the hoses on/off valve to control the flow.

          A must have

This will be a permanent replacement for the original 3in1 cap, you can attach a hose for showers and the center of the cap will rotate 360 degrees allowing you to align the spout.

            save time

Unless you have a lot of time to draw water from a dromedary bag, these are invaluable. On the standard cap, the little fold-in spout is so small, it can take several minutes to draw water. I'm hoping these will make it a little faster.

              Addition to Dromedary Bag

Got this as an addition to the Dromedary bag, can be used to dispence water with one hand, and hanging Dromedary bag on the tree creates "outdoor plumbing"
