Bottle does leak

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I like this bottle and I intend to use it with the MSR filter, but the only pain is that I will have to make sure it stays upright. If you leave it on its side or upside down, it will leak about 10-20 drops in about 15mins (I left it upside down my counter on a towel while I showered)

Looks can be deceiving ....

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

What an awesome looking bottle! Is what I thought when I purchased a few of these. I soon found out the top leaks all the time. It appears to be on the plastic screw top where the lid attaches to the bottle. I had been looking at stainless water bottles for a while and this was the first one I really liked. I will not be purchasing any more from MSR, unless they figure a way to fix the leaks.

Too expensive and heavy

I am survival minded , period . I like for my gear to have duality . In other words , if I should find myself in trouble way out in the bush WHAT ELSE will my gear do ? I bought the BIG black MSR bottles thinking that they were like ALL other stainless bottles and if in trouble you could boil water in the over a fire....WRONG!! The threads on the bottle that secure the cap are PLASTIC ! not steel so they would melt if licked by flame , yes , you could swing the bottle but would still be taking a chance . Are they well made bottles ? All of MSR's products are well made which is why I went with them . These bottles are VERY heavy when full . Do yourself a favor and get the clean canteen if you are after something that you can boil in or even cook in in an emergency .

MSR Bottle

Work perfect with my MSR filtration system. Very well made bottle and hopefully will last for years to come. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is the finish on the outside of the Matte black one is easily scratch-able.

Great Bottle - With Necessary Modifications

I originally bought two of the white 1-Liter bottles. I bought them specifically because they mate right to the MSR WaterWorks and MiniWorks filters that I own.

The problem is that they leaked every time I used them - I thought it was a faulty lid and o-ring at first, but discovered that the culprit was the seam between the plastic threads at the top of the bottle, and where this cap piece mates with the body of the bottle itself. (not at the very top of the opening, but inside the bottle)

Once this was identified, I took a fingertip bead of clear silicone sealant and ran a quick swipe around the seam that can be felt at the inside top of the bottle. Let the silicone cure for at least 24-hours with the cap off. This completely cured the problem, and I've been very happy with them since!
