Description

Just the way you like it.

With more adjustments than just about any fork on the market, the performance-obsessed engineers at MRP designed the Ribbon 130 Boost 29/27.5in Plus Fork to hold up against the hard-hitting demands of all-mountain ripping while offering up a totally custom feel to meet your specific riding needs and adapt local trail systems. Not only did MRP succeed in this ambitious endeavor of creating a fine-tunable fork for discerning riders and suspension geeks, but they did so while keeping its weight competitively low at only 4.2 pounds. This particular Ribbon fork features 130-millimeters of terrain-taming travel for your all-mountain and enduro adventures.

Boost axle spacing makes for precise tracking of the front wheel over more turbulent sections of the trail, while the 35-millimeter stanchions offer reduced flex and stiff tracking over the aforementioned rough stuff. Since the Ribbon is named after the infamous Grand Junction trail that's touted as one of the most "unique slab rock trails that's as fast as your bike will permit," it makes sense that the Ribbon is built to excel on the steepest descents at high speeds, but also easily pick apart technical terrain with methodical precision. Then, the Ribbon's FulFill air spring gives you the fine-tunable feel of independently adjustable positive and negative air chambers, which is ideal if you want to customize your fork's operation and feel to near-obsessive realms. Whether you need it to be smooth and supple off-the-top or incredibly supportive, the Ribbon is your fork of choice with its independent air chambers.

By integrating Ramp Control technology into the Ribbon, MRP ensures you won't have to add or remove volume spacers ever again. This technology delivers 16-position adjustment with the twist of a knob, tuning your fork's behavior to handle harsh hits where you'd normally bottom out. Meanwhile, PSST valves bleed out the lowers when drastic changes in elevation and temperature mess with the operation and feel of your fork. MRP integrated a "twin-tube" style EssenTTial damper, which uses a low-pressure internal floating piston (IFP) instead of a bladder to eliminate stiction while enhancing reliability and consistency. And when it's time to service the fork, the cassette-tool interface along the top cap and external bleed ports make it a relatively quick and easy endeavor.

  • Groundbreaking fork with all-mountain customization and feel
  • 35mm stanchions for superior composure over rough terrain
  • EssenTTial twin-tube damper for less stiction, better consistency
  • FulFill air spring with independent positive and negative chambers
  • 8-position low-speed compression, 16-position Ramp Control tech
  • Ramp Control tech prevents harshness and bottom-outs on big hits
  • Cassette-tool interface along top cap for servicing ease
  • Boost 15 x 110mm thru-axle with quick-release

A worthy alternative

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I can't remember the last time I rode a fork that didn't say FOX or RockShox on it. Being suspension curious I had to give the Ribbon a try. After all it won Pinkbike's suspension product of the year award for 2017.

The chassis is stiff and compares well to a Lyrik or FOX 36. The Twin-tube damper and Ramp Control offer excellent tune-ability. I found the fork easy to set up using the guide sent by MRP. Another plus is the fork is on par or lighter than the competition. One other cool thing is that these forks are hand built in Colorado.

If you are someone who is always looking for the next best in mountain bike tech then you'll want to take a good hard look at the Ribbon.

Well Regarded

Pinkbike just gave the MRP Ribbon a solid review, saying:

"A lot of us only think of two or maybe three brands when looking for a new suspension fork, and that's understandable given how much these things cost. Most riders aren't likely to spend a grand on something that's not a well-known performer, but it turns out that the Ribbon is one underdog that can not only hang with the big boys but even outperform them. MRP's awesome twin-tube damper and Ramp Control air spring come together to make their fork not just a viable option, but also a front-runner."
