As the old saying goes, when it comes to mountain bike suspension, there's more than one way to skin a cat -- or tune a fork. Oil, springs, and shims all can be mixed and matched to change your fork's ride characteristics. Motorex Racing Fork Oil is a terrific option for riders looking to change the feel of their suspension fork or simply replace old fork oil.

Oil serves two purposes in a suspension fork. First, it controls the movement of the wheel when it hits bumps -- we call this damping. Second, the oil provides lubrication for the fork's internal parts, protecting against friction and corrosion. And by changing the weight (viscosity) of your suspension fork's oil, you can alter how it performs on the trail. Higher weight oils (10W and 15W) are thicker -- they increase the fork's damping, providing slower movement over bumps in the trail. On the other hand, lighter, lower viscosity oils (2.5W, 5W and 7.5W) decrease a fork's damping.

Motorex Racing Fork Oil features Low Friction Technology that prevents foaming and corrosion, while treating and protecting the fork's seals. It comes in a 1L bottle, enough for several applications.

Fork maintenance

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Buy some of this oil and a pair of seals/dust wipers. Use it to service your suspension fork. You can refer to your fork manufacturer's specifications for which oil weight is recommended. I bought some of this 10wt oil and have been using it in my forks and it works well.

Does the trick

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I used to only run Fox oil with my Fox shox and Rock shox oil with my Rock Shox forks, but I realized its all the same. I rebuild my Fox 36 with Motorex 10wt and it feels amazing! Changing oil in your suspension is just as important as changing oil in your car, DO IT, your fork will last longer and perform better.

This is good oil...

...but stick with manufacturer's oil for best results. Its formulated to work with their seal systems, and will preserve your warranty.

Check for a whole host of directions on servicing Fox brand forks and shocks. Also, the Mbr channel on youtube has good videos - one in particular for Fox forks.
