Description

X3 Enduro 29in Boost Wheelset

As riders have pushed the limits of just how fast they can rip down technical terrain, the demands placed on their wheels and tires has dramatically gone up. To meet these demands, wheels have gotten much stronger, stiffer, and wider for accurate tracking across rough terrain, durability to ride unscathed across gnarlier terrain, as well as higher levels of grip when you're running modern trail tires in the realm of 2.3 to 2.6 inches in width. Spotting these trends in enduro and all-mountain riding disciplines, the savvy engineers at Mercury made the X3 Enduro Wheelset for reliable strength, high levels of stiffness, and better support with wider tires.

Made of alloy, the X3 Enduro Wheelset maintains high levels of strength and stiffness at a relatively low weight, but without draining your funds like costlier carbon wheels. The 30-millimeter internal width provides an optimal tire footprint when you're running modern trail tires in the range of 2.2 to a massive 2.8 inches wide. Since they're made with Boost spacing in mind, you'll enjoy increased wheel stiffness, thanks to an improved spoke bracing angle with the wider hubs. The two-cross spoke lacing pattern maximizes lateral stiffness, yet it offers a bit of vertical compliance for a smoother ride quality, especially over rocky terrain and rough trails.

Mercury laser welds the X3 Enduro to ensure a consistent, seamless rim that's well-balanced and without irregularities. The pronounced bead socket and flat rimbed allow you to easily set-up tubeless tires without excessive effort on your part. They're finished with Mercury's branded MTB Disc hub with sealed cartridge bearings for reliability and longevity, even in sloppy conditions. 28 Sapim Race double-butted spokes and Sapim brass nipples ensure a reliably strong wheelset, but without the excessive weight of burlier wheels with 32 spokes.

  • Mercury's signature alloy wheels for all-mountain and enduro
  • Low-profile shape for increased responsiveness and durability
  • Alloy construction brings reliable strength at reasonable weight
  • 30mm internal width optimally supports 2.2 to 2.8-inch tires
  • Two-cross lacing pattern and Boost hub spacing for stiffness
  • Mercury's branded MTB Disc hub with sealed cartridge bearings
  • Pronounced bead socket and flat rim bed for easy tubeless set-up

Impressive wheels!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These X3’s are hands-down one of the best wheels you can buy for the money. Low weight combined with great durability. I have 1300+ miles of hard off-road training on these wheels and they run true as the day I purchased it. Would definitely buy again.

Love my X3’s. Well made wheels plus they’re stiff and light. I ride some technical single track rock gardens and they hold up well. Highly recommend.

2200 miles so far and wheels are amazing. Mercury hubs are buttery smooth with lightening fast engagement. Haven’t had to true yet. Very happy with purchase.

An excellent wheelset. Arrived true and stiff, just like every other Mercury wheel I've owned. I am a big rider and I never have problems with Mercury wheels, road or mountain. I love the quick engagement. Very well hand built wheelset.

So far not so good.

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

They were supposed to be 6-bolt but I received Centerlock hubs. Fortunately I already had some centerlock disc and I will be returning the 6-bolt disc that I had ordered with the wheels. Tires mounted a little too easy and fit loose. My compressor would not seat the bead and I had to use a CO2 inflator instead which I have never had to do with other wheels. The makes me concerned that these rims will be prone to burps, but time will tell. Tires mounted are Vitoria Mazza with Vitoria Airliner inserts, 2.6 front 2.4 rear.

I bought these 2020 X3 a couple of months ago to replace my stock wheel set on my Trek and I can definitely say it was well worth the money. The wheel set is very stiff and yet very light for alloy. I love the quick engagement of the new hub.

These X3 wheels have been awesome! I’ve had them for about 5 months now and the bearings and spoke tension are as good as they were new. The hubs have fast engagement for that quick response. For the price, you wouldn't believe the quality but I honestly believe these wheels may be the best on the market. Highly recommend.
